Overview

The Posture Pump® Disc Hydrator® is a spinal health product designed to reinforce the natural curved shape of the neck and back, lubricate joints, and promote proper posture. It is not intended as a massage device or for occasional use, but rather for regular application. The device is available in Model 4100 Series (4100-S, 4100-SX, 4100-D).

Function Description:

The Posture Pump® works by gently stretching the spine, creating disc expansion and spinal shaping. It utilizes air cells that are inflated to a comfortable level, allowing the spine to decompress and reshape. The device is designed to address issues such as "Computer Neck" (forward head carriage), driving stress (low back, middle back, and neck tension), forward-flexed neck positions, side-flexed neck positions, shoulder and upper back tension, and "Telephone Neck." Regular use aims to alleviate discomfort, stiffness, and stress, and to help users achieve a more upright posture.

Important Technical Specifications:

The device consists of a neck unit and a back unit, both featuring inflatable air cells and hand pumps for inflation and deflation. The neck unit includes a Comfort Visor™ forehead restraint to secure the head during use. Inflation levels vary by model:

  • Model 4100-S: Typically 1 to 7 complete pumps for the neck unit.
  • Model 4100-SX: Typically 1 to 9 complete pumps for the neck unit.
  • Model 4100-D: Typically 2 to 12 complete pumps for the neck unit. The pumps are equipped with an automatic air release valve to limit inflation, preventing over-inflation. The device is designed to be adjustable in length by turning it over and moving Velcro straps.

Usage Features:

The Posture Pump® is intended for use on a comfortable, firm surface, such as a bed or mattress, and can be graduated to a flat, firm surface as flexibility increases. It is recommended to use the device under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Warm-Up Routine:

Before each training session, a warm-up routine is advised:

  1. Slowly turn the head and neck side-to-side 5 times.
  2. Tilt the head and neck forward and backward 5 times.
  3. Lean the head and neck side-to-side 5 times.
  4. In a seated position, slide the deflated unit against the low back and buttocks, ensuring buttocks hang off the edge of the lower unit and the neck fits comfortably into the neck cradle.
  5. While lying flat with knees bent and feet on the ground, rock the lower portion of the Elliptical Back Rocker™ by using abdominal muscles to lift buttocks (rocking pelvis up and back) and then back muscles (rocking downward). Repeat this movement several times.

Full Spine Training Session:

  1. Place the deflated unit on a comfortable, firm surface. Deflate air cells by pushing the button on the pump and squeezing the air cells.
  2. Slide and center the unit under the back of the neck, snugly against the shoulders and upper back. Center the neck on the neck cradle using index fingers.
  3. Apply the Comfort Visor™ forehead restraint, centering it across the forehead and tightening it until snug and centered. Ensure it slides back toward the hairline and molds to the forehead shape.
  4. Hold the back of the unit down with index fingers or thumbs and further tighten the Comfort Visor™ if necessary.
  5. Press the ends of the Comfort Visor™ straps across the Velcro® forehead section, ensuring it is snug without lifting the back of the unit.
  6. Grasp the two hand pumps for the lower unit: the lowest air cell pump in the right hand, and the upper air cell pump in the left hand.
  7. Inflate the lowest air cell with the right hand pump to a firm, comfortable level (usually 1-5 complete pumps).
  8. Inflate the upper air cell with the left hand pump to an equally comfortable level (usually 1-5 complete pumps).
  9. Squeeze both pumps at the same time (usually 1-3 more pumps).
  10. Using abdominal and pelvic muscles, gently rock back and forth 3-5 times.
  11. Deflate air cells by pushing down on both pump buttons at the same time.
  12. Repeat steps 7 through 11 several times, leaving the unit inflated to a comfortable level on the last repetition.
  13. Ensure the neck remains centered on the neck cradle and the strap remains snug while the back unit is inflated.
  14. Grasp the hand pump for the neck air cell(s) and slowly pump the unit up to a comfortable level (refer to model-specific pump counts above). Do not cover or block the open ends of the hand pump.
  15. Wait 10 seconds, then release all air by pushing the manual air release button on the pump. Repeat this workout 10 to 15 times, leaving the neck air cell(s) inflated at a comfortable level on the last repetition.
  16. With all air cells inflated to comfortable levels, allow the entire spine to stretch over the inflated air cells, keeping buttocks on the ground. Relax on the inflated unit for 1 to 5 minutes on the first session, gradually working up to a maximum goal of 15 minutes.
  17. Completely deflate all air cells (neck first), release Velcro straps, and remove the Comfort Visor™. Gently bring knees to chest one at a time for 5 seconds each, then both knees to chest for 5 seconds. Gently roll off the unit to the left or right side slowly and carefully without turning the head. Once free from the unit, repeat the warm-up routine to acclimate neck muscles to the weight of the head.
  18. Never rock the unit while the neck unit is inflated.
  19. Use the unit daily or at least 3 times per week, preferably before bedtime, to help relieve tension, stress, and fatigue, and to reinforce natural curves while lubricating joints.

Cautions:

  • Read instructions completely before use.
  • Consult a doctor before use, especially with specific joint, nerve, disc, vascular, or other disorders/weaknesses.
  • Do not use if pregnant, injured, or with implanted spinal hardware.
  • Never inflate to the point of pain.
  • Never cover or block the open ends of the hand pump (Safety Release Valve).
  • Never reposition the body when the neck unit is inflated.
  • If pain results, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
  • If the back is sensitive or stiff, use the unit on a bed/mattress first.
  • An aggressive workout may cause temporary soreness; reduce intensity and duration if this occurs.
  • Keep the unit out of reach of children.
  • If using a cold gel pack, cover it with cloth and never place directly against skin.
  • If not snug, comfortable, or centered, or if inflation seems uneven, completely deflate, remove forehead restraint, re-center, and reapply.

Maintenance Features:

If the Posture Pump® is purchased with the Comfort Pad attached, it folds up easily and is lightweight. It can be wiped down with a damp cloth for cleaning. The Comfort Pad connects to the neck frame with 4 plastic pegs, so it should be kept out of reach of children and pets.
