Overview

This document serves as an operator's manual for the Poulan Pro PPLGT2654 Garden Tractor, providing essential information for safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Poulan Pro PPLGT2654 is a garden tractor designed for lawn and garden maintenance, primarily mowing. It features a gasoline engine, a transaxle for power transmission, and a mower deck with blades for cutting grass. The tractor is equipped with various controls for steering, speed, braking, and mower operation, including an attachment lift lever, clutch/brake pedal, parking brake, throttle control, attachment clutch switch, ignition switch, and a freewheel control for moving the tractor manually. Safety features such as an operator presence sensing system and a reverse operation system (ROS) are integrated to prevent accidents.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Gasoline Capacity and Type: 4.0 Gallons (15.14 L) of Regular Unleaded gasoline. Gasoline containing up to 10% ethanol (E10) is acceptable; exceeding this will void the warranty.
  • Oil Type (API: SG-SL): SAE 10W30 (above 32°F/0°C) or SAE 5W30 (below 32°F/0°C).
  • Oil Capacity: 64 Oz. (1.89 L).
  • Spark Plug: Champion RC12YC with a gap of 0.030" (0.76 mm).
  • Charging System: 15 Amps @ 3600 RPM.
  • Battery: 28 Amp/Hr, 230 Min. CCA, U1R Model Size.
  • Blade Bolt Torque: 45-55 Ft. Lbs. (62-75 Nm).
  • Maximum Recommended Operation Angle: 15° on slopes.
  • Tire Pressure: Specific PSI values are indicated on the tires themselves.

Usage Features:

  • Controls: The tractor features clearly labeled controls for reverse, neutral, high/low speed, choke, fast/slow engine speed, ignition switch, engine off/start/on, differential lock, clutch/brake pedal, parking brake, mower height, mower lift, reverse operation system (ROS), cruise control, lights, fuel, battery, and ear protection recommendation.
  • Starting the Engine: Requires the freewheel control in "transmission engaged," operator on seat, clutch/brake pedal depressed, parking brake set, motion control lever in neutral, attachment clutch disengaged, and throttle control in choke position (if equipped). Warm and cold weather starting procedures are detailed, including transmission warm-up for cold conditions.
  • Mowing Operation: Recommended to operate the engine at full speed (fast) for best mower performance. Mowing tips include cutting up and down slopes (not across), avoiding wet grass, choosing a low ground speed, and starting by turning right for large areas to discharge clippings away from obstacles. For extremely tall grass, it's recommended to mow twice.
  • Slope Operation: Emphasizes extreme caution on slopes, with a maximum recommended operation angle of 15°. Users are instructed to mow up and down slopes, not across, and to avoid sudden changes in speed or direction.
  • Towing: Only with a machine designed for towing, attaching equipment at the hitch point. Weight limits and towing on slopes recommendations must be followed, and children or others should not be allowed on towed equipment.
  • Seat Adjustment: The seat can be adjusted to a comfortable position allowing the operator to fully depress the clutch/brake pedal.
  • Mower Deck Adjustment: The manual provides instructions for adjusting the front gauge wheel, turning the steering wheel to position the mower, sliding the mower under the tractor, installing the anti-sway bar, attaching mower side suspension arms, and attaching rear and front lift links.
  • Belt Installation: Detailed steps for installing the belt on the engine clutch pulley and proper routing in all mower pulley grooves.
  • Washout Port: For cleaning the underside of the mower deck, an adapter can be connected to a garden hose.

  • Lubrication Chart: Specifies lubrication points (spindle zerks, front wheel bearing zerks, steering pivot bolts, steering sector gear teeth, engine, mandrel zerks) and recommends general purpose grease.
  • Engine Oil: Check oil level before each use and every 8 hours. Change oil every 50 hours or annually. Instructions for changing engine oil, including draining and refilling, are provided.
  • Engine Oil Filter: Replace every season or every other oil change if the tractor is used more than 100 hours in one year.
  • Air Filter and Air Screen: Clean regularly, more often in dusty conditions, to prevent engine damage from overheating.
  • Engine Cooling System: Keep grass screen, cooling fins, and external surfaces clean.
  • Spark Plugs: Replace at the beginning of each mowing season or every 100 hours.
  • Muffler: Inspect and replace if corroded or damaged.
  • In-Line Fuel Filter: Replace once each season or if clogged.
