Overview

The PowerKing PK0915-EH is a 5-inch, 14HP chipper shredder equipped with an electric start and an hour meter, designed for processing various organic materials.

Function Description:

This machine is primarily used for chipping and shredding organic waste such as leaves, branches, crop stray, and for preparing farming feed. It efficiently reduces these materials into a granulated detrital form, making them suitable for composting, mulching, or other agricultural uses. The chipper operates with a scissor action created by its chipping blades and a bar blade, effectively breaking down materials. An adjustable diverter on the exit chute allows for directing the processed material to a desired location. The electric start feature simplifies operation, while the hour meter helps track usage for maintenance scheduling.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: PK0915-EH (5")
  • Engine: 14HP CH440 Kohler engine. It's important to note that this unit does NOT have a GEAR REDUCTION SYSTEM as mentioned in the Kohler manual, and therefore, the engine does not require oil for such a system.
  • Chipping Fineness: Granulated Detrital
  • Max Blade Speed: 2530 revolutions per minute (r/min)
  • Fuel Type: 87 Octane Unleaded Gas
  • Recommended Engine Oil: 10W-30 Motor Oil. The engine holds 1.2 quarts. Both yellow oil fill holes lead to the same reservoir.
  • Chipper Weight: 397 lbs
  • Shipping Weight: 451 lbs
  • Shipping Dimensions: 45"x26"x44"
  • Maximum Branch Diameter: All branches should not exceed 5 inches in diameter for optimal performance.
  • Battery: 12V 9AH Gel type battery for electric start.

Usage Features:

  • Setup: The chipper should be placed on a flat, dry surface. The exit chute can be adjusted to direct processed material.
  • Starting the Engine: Refer to the Kohler manual for specific engine starting procedures. After starting, the throttle should be adjusted to maximum RPM.
  • Loading Material: Users should stand to the side of the entry chute, not directly behind it, to avoid kickback. Material should be loaded from the large diameter side first. When the machine begins to auto-feed, the branch can be released. It's recommended to allow the machine to fully process material before adding more. If auto-feeding doesn't occur, branches may need to be loaded slowly or guided in with other branches. Freshly cut branches and straw are recommended for best performance. Small logs are not recommended.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always wear protective goggles/safety glasses with side shields, work gloves (properly fitting, without loose cuffs or drawstrings), steel-toed boots with non-slip treads, and long pants/jeans. Avoid loose clothing or jewelry.
    • Keep bystanders and pets at least 50 feet away from the work area. Stop the engine if anyone approaches.
    • Never allow children to operate the chipper.
    • Operate the machine outdoors, away from flammable materials.
    • Never run the engine in an enclosed area due to carbon monoxide risk.
    • Store fuel and oil in approved containers, away from heat and open flames, and out of reach of children.
    • Fill the gasoline tank outdoors with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke or have ignition sources nearby. Reinstall caps securely.
    • If gasoline spills, do not start the engine; move the machine and allow vapors to dissipate.
    • Allow the engine to cool completely before storing.
    • Never make adjustments or repairs with the engine running. Shut down the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire, and wait 5 minutes before proceeding.
    • Do not tamper with the engine's governor setting.
    • Keep combustible substances away from a hot engine.
    • Do not cover the machine while the muffler is hot.
    • Do not operate without the air cleaner or carburetor air intake cover.
    • The muffler and engine become very hot; avoid touching them.
  • Jams: If the drum jams, stop the machine, remove both chutes, remove the cap on the bearing, and turn the shaft using the included wrench (or a larger adjustable wrench if needed). Rotate in both directions to loosen jammed material.
  • Easy Open Chutes: The machine features a latch mechanism for toolless opening of the chutes, providing quick access to the drum area for clearing debris or changing blades.

Maintenance Features:

  • General: Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity. Always stop the motor, unplug the spark plug, and wait 5 minutes for parts to cool before any maintenance or inspection.
  • Maintenance Checklist (Δ indicates action required):
    • Before each use: Check engine oil level (Δ), check general equipment (Δ), check belts (Δ).
    • Every 5 hours: Clean engine exterior and cooling (Δ).
    • First time 5 hours: Change engine oil (Δ).
    • Every 25 hours: Replace air filter (Δ).
    • Every 100 hours: Replace spark plug (Δ).
  • Engine Service: Refer to the engine manufacturer's user manual for specific engine maintenance.
  • Lubrication: Apply 1 pump of lithium grease to each flange bearing before each season of use.
  • Blades:
    • Inspect blades for cracks, dullness, or chips. Do not use cracked blades; replace them.
    • Dull or chipped blades can be reversed for extended use.
    • Blades can be removed using the included T-bar wrench or a 17mm socket with an extension and ratchet driver. Use scrap wood or soft material in the drum to prevent movement and avoid stripping bolts. Use rags or paper towels in the entry to prevent bolts or blades from falling into the drum.
  • Bar Blade Adjustment: The bar blade, located at the bottom of the drum housing, creates a scissor action with the chipping blades. If chipping performance is poor, adjust the bar blade by loosening its bolts and setting a gap of about 1-5mm to the chipping blades, ensuring it's parallel, then retighten.
  • Battery Maintenance: For storage longer than 3 months, use a 12Volt battery tender. Frequent use of the machine will recharge the battery via the engine.

Warranty Policy:

  • Registration: Product registration is required to activate the warranty, which begins from the date of purchase.
  • Engine Warranty: Kohler engines (Command Pro series) have a 3-year commercial and 3-year residential warranty covering parts and labor. Power King engines by Lifan have a 1-year residential warranty. QV Power 3pt 40hp gearbox has a 1-year warranty. Refer to the engine manufacturer or www.QVTools.com for details.
  • Equipment Warranty: Covers manufacturer defects of chassis and component parts for 1 year (parts only, shipping not covered).
  • Exclusions: Warranty is not valid for damage due to accident, collision, normal wear, fuel contamination, abuse, neglect, misuse, alteration, unsuitable use, or unauthorized parts. Transportation charges for service, labor for repair, and consumable parts (e.g., brake pads, tires, blades) are not covered.
  • Damaged Products:
    • Inspection: Inspect goods before signing the delivery receipt. Signing without inspection makes the customer responsible for filing freight claims.
    • Concealed Damage: Report immediately. Notate "Possible Freight Damage" on the delivery receipt if the outer carton appears damaged.
    • Obvious Damage: Refuse delivery and contact the dealer immediately for an exchange.
  • Defective Products: Test within 15 days of receipt. Contact QVTools at 1-800-344-3371 for assistance. Have model number, serial number, and proof of purchase ready.
  • Original Owner Warranty: Non-transferable, covers only the original owner who purchased from a QVTOOLS authorized dealer.
