The Pluszap™ is a commercial zapper insect control device, part of the P+L brand of insect control products, designed for effective and flexible use in commercial settings. It is available in two sizes and comes in either a white or stainless steel finish, offering aesthetic versatility to suit different environments.
The primary function of the Pluszap™ is to attract and eliminate flying insects. It achieves this by utilizing ultra-violet (UV) tubes, which emit light at a specific wavelength known to attract a wide range of flying insects. Once attracted, insects are zapped on an internal killing grid. The deceased insects are then collected in a deep, removable catch tray located at the bottom of the unit, ensuring a clean and hygienic operation.
The Pluszap™ offers versatile mounting options to suit various commercial spaces. It can be wall-mounted, ceiling-suspended, or desk-mounted, providing flexibility in placement. The unit is supplied with all necessary hardware for installation, including screws, wall plugs, suspension keyrings, a mains cable, and a suspension chain.
For optimal performance, the Pluszap™ should ideally be positioned around two meters above the ground. It is recommended to place the unit in the darkest part of the area to be protected, as this enhances its attractiveness to insects. To ensure maximum visibility and effectiveness, the unit should not be placed near windows, skylights, or other light sources, nor should it be obscured by furniture, doors, or other obstacles. The goal is for the Pluszap™ to be visible from every part of the area it is intended to protect.
The device is designed for indoor use only and is not suitable for use in barns, stables, or similar agricultural locations. It is crucial to ensure that the power supply of the mains outlet corresponds to the rating specified on the flykiller's label before installation. The Pluszap™ is supplied with a two-meter mains lead and uses a removable mains lead and plug for connection to a power supply of appropriate rating, as indicated on the specification label found on the catch tray.
For continuous protection against flying insects, the Pluszap™ should ideally be in operation 24 hours a day. Insects are most attracted to the unit at night when there is no competition from daylight or other light sources, making continuous operation highly effective.
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the continued efficiency and longevity of the Pluszap™. Before any cleaning or maintenance, it is imperative to disconnect the unit from the mains power supply to prevent electrical hazards.
Cleaning: It is recommended to clean the unit regularly, ideally every month. During cleaning, the unit should be thoroughly wiped down with a damp cloth to remove any accumulated dirt. After cleaning, ensure the unit is completely dry before reconnecting it to the power supply.
Tube Replacement: The UV tubes are critical for the Pluszap™'s effectiveness. To ensure optimal insect attraction, the UV tubes should be replaced annually. Over twelve months, the phosphor coating that emits the correct wavelength of UV light burns away, significantly diminishing the UV output. To replace the tubes, first rotate the tube through 90 degrees to free it from the holders, then pull it away from the chassis. Used UV tubes should be disposed of in accordance with local WEEE regulations.
Starter Replacement: Starters provide the initial spark to light the UV tubes and wear out over time. They should be replaced at the same intervals as the UV tubes. To replace a starter, rotate it anti-clockwise and then pull it free from the unit.
Tray Removal: The catch tray is designed for easy removal, which also serves as a safety feature. The tray is connected to the unit's power supply via a hidden switch. Removing the tray breaks this connection, cutting power to the unit and ensuring safe access for servicing and cleaning. When replacing the tray, ensure it is pushed fully into position to re-establish the power connection.
The Pluszap™ comes with a two-year guarantee, provided it is maintained as recommended in these instructions. However, this guarantee does not cover tubes and starters, nor does it cover breakdowns due to misuse, incorrect operation, or use in an incorrect application. Using non-approved consumables may also invalidate the guarantee.
It is important to note that the Pluszap™ must only be used in areas free of dust and any possible explosive vapor mixtures. If there are any queries regarding suitable installation environments, it is advised to contact the local fire authority for advice before installation. The device is designed to be earthed, and this safety measure must always be observed.
