Overview

This document provides installation and operating instructions for the Praxis AWP 3260 CWH Hydro-massage Bathtub, which is UL 1795 certified.

Function Description:

The Praxis AWP 3260 CWH is a hydro-massage bathtub designed to provide a relaxing bathing experience through water jets. It incorporates a pump to circulate water, and some models may include an optional in-line heater to maintain water temperature and luxury upgrades such as back jets, neck jets, foot jets, or air jets. The system is designed for residential use and requires proper electrical and plumbing connections.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Requirements (Standard Pump): 115/120 VAC, 6.6 AMP or 10.6 AMP, 60 HZ. Requires a dedicated circuit protected with a 15 AMP GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter).
  • Electrical Requirements (Luxury Upgrades): 115/120 VOLT, 11.2 AMP, 60 HZ. Requires a dedicated circuit protected with a 20 AMP GFCI.
  • Electrical Requirements (Optional In-Line Heater): 1.5 KW, 115/120 VOLT, 12.4 AMP. Requires a dedicated 20 AMP circuit protected with a GFCI.
  • Maximum Soaking Temperature: Should not exceed 104°F (40°C). The heater is factory-set to maintain a maximum of 104°F.
  • Access Panel: A minimum access panel of 15" x 20" must be provided for servicing the pump or other equipment.
  • Grounding: A grounding lug is provided on the exterior of the control panel and pump to permit connection of a No. 8 solid copper bonding conductor to other electrical equipment and exposed metal in the vicinity, as required by local codes.

Usage Features:

  • Controls: The pump motor can be turned on by one of two controls:
    • Airswitch: A push button located on the bath. Depressing the button turns the pump on, and depressing it again turns it off.
    • Ameri-Touch Low Water Cutoff: A sensor pad on the bath's deck. Touching the pad turns the pump on. A built-in timer allows the bath to run for 20 minutes, then shuts off automatically. Touching the pad again can extend the run time or shut off the pump prematurely.
  • Jet Adjustment: The direction of the water jets can be controlled by rotating the nozzle. Water pressure can be regulated by turning the escutcheon (ring/bezel around the jet) clockwise to reduce pressure and counter-clockwise to increase pressure.
  • Air Induction: The system automatically introduces air into the water system while the pump is operating, creating a more vigorous, bubbling stream from the jets.
  • Heater (Optional): The in-line heater maintains the bath's original water temperature. It is controlled by an internal pressure switch that activates the heater only when water is moving through the system (i.e., when the pump is running). It includes a High-limit switch that will shut off the heater if water temperature exceeds safe standards. This switch can be reset by pushing a button.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always follow basic precautions, including reading all instructions.
    • Do not permit children to use the unit unless closely supervised.
    • Use the unit only for its intended purpose.
    • Never drop or insert any object into any opening.
    • Do not operate the unit without the guard over the suction fitting.
    • Ensure the unit is connected to a GFCI-protected circuit, and test the GFCI routinely. Do not use the bathtub if the GFCI is defective or disrupts power without the test button being pushed.
    • Keep electrical appliances at least 5 feet away from the bath while bathing.
    • Keep hair away from the suction fitting to prevent entrapment.
    • Do not use the bath while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
    • Consult a physician for specific temperature and length of use specifications, especially for children, elderly, or infirm bathers, or if health considerations exist. Prolonged exposure to hot water may induce hyperthermia.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Acrylic Surface: Use a damp cloth or sponge with household soap or liquid detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Removing Light Scratches: A paste wax or automobile rubbing compound may be used.
  • Whirlpool System Flushing: The whirlpool piping system should be flushed periodically (not to exceed 90 days). To clean, fill the tub 2 inches above the highest jet, add 1/2 oz. liquid dishwasher liquid per gallon of water, run the system for 10 minutes, then drain the bath.
  • Suction Fitting: Keep the suction fitting clean and free of debris.
  • Pump: No maintenance is required for the tub pump. Never run the pump without water in the tub. Always ensure the pump is turned off after bathing.
  • GFCI Check: Periodically check the Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter to ensure it is operating correctly.
  • Service and Repairs: All service and repairs should be performed by a qualified service technician.

Installation Guidelines:

  • Pre-Installation Inspection: Upon receipt, thoroughly inspect the unit for damage, shortage, and correct specifications. Do not install a damaged or defective unit without prior factory approval.
  • Water Testing: Water test the unit prior to installation. Fill the tub to the overflow, and check all fittings, thru-walls, and piping for leaks. Do not install if leaks are present.
  • Tub Support: The tub bottom must be supported by a setting compound (cement or mortar) with a plastic film barrier. The tub should be worked into the compound until the tub lip is just barely in contact with the deck or stringers.
  • Leveling: Check the unit's level (length and width) and adjust with mortar if the floor is not level. Ensure water drains from the deck into the interior of the tub.
  • Wall Installation: If placed against a wall, blocking should be attached to the wall to support the tub lip. Do not allow the tub lip to support any of the bath's weight.
  • Deck Installation: For deck-mounted tubs, the platform opening dimensions should be 1-1/2 inches less than the tub dimensions (e.g., for a 60" x 32" tub, the opening is 58-1/2" x 30-1/2").
  • Faucet and Valves: Install through the tub deck using a sharp hole saw. Ensure the spout clears the deck edge. Place heat-resistant material between the tub and any soldering work.
  • Finishing: After testing, close in the unit with chosen material. Seal around the tub lip and surrounding walls with a water-resistant sealer.
  • Electrical Connections: All wiring must be done by a qualified, licensed electrician. Install an outlet to the stud wall a minimum of 6 inches above the floor, near the pump access opening.
  • Flange Installation (Molded Acrylic or Screw-on Tile):
    • Drill through the flange at the framing studs and screw the flange to the studs.
    • For acrylic flanges, bring the sheathing to the top of the flange and seal the joint.
    • For screw-on tile flanges, caulk between the flange and tub after attaching to the framing, then bring the sheathing over the flange.
    • Tile over sheathing and/or flange, sealing all joints between the tub and tile.
    • Install the skirt by inserting its horizontal edge into top brackets, scribing a line on the floor, mounting lower braces, lifting the skirt, and screwing it into place. Place decorative caps over screw heads. Caulking may be used to conceal the seam between the tub and skirt.
