Usage Features

Safety: The manual emphasizes safety with clear warnings and definitions for DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTICE. It highlights risks such as carbon monoxide poisoning, fire hazards, eye injury, and hearing loss. Users are instructed to operate the engine outdoors, wear safety goggles and hearing protection, and avoid refueling while operating.

Setup:

  • Hose Connection: Hoses are not included. Users must use non-collapsible intake hoses with a 2" diameter. Reducers on the inlet or discharge port are generally not recommended unless included with the pump.
  • Priming: Before starting, the pump must be primed by filling the pump housing with clean water through the Priming Water Filler Cap. Running the pump dry will damage it and void the warranty.
  • Placement: The pump should be located on a flat, level, well-ventilated surface, close to the water source, and with hoses as short as necessary for optimal performance. The intake strainer must be fully immersed in water.

Starting the Engine:

  1. Choke: For a cold engine, move the Choke to the START position. For a warm engine, leave it in RUN.
  2. Fuel Valve: Open the Fuel Valve.
  3. Throttle: Slide the Throttle to 1/3 away from the SLOW position.
  4. Engine Switch: Turn the Engine Switch ON.
  5. Starter Handle: Pull the Starter Handle slowly several times to allow gasoline to flow, then pull quickly until the engine starts. Do not let the handle snap back.
  6. Warm-up: Allow the engine to run for several seconds, then slowly move the Choke Lever to the RUN position. Allow the engine to run at no load for five minutes to stabilize.
  7. Break-in Period: A break-in period of approximately 3 hours of use is recommended, during which heavy loads and maximum speed should be avoided. After 20 hours, the engine oil should be changed.

Stopping the Engine:

  • Emergency Stop: Turn the Engine Switch OFF.
  • Normal Stop: Slide the Throttle to SLOW, then turn the Engine Switch OFF.

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance: A detailed maintenance schedule is provided, including checks before each use, monthly (every 20 hr), every 3 months (50 hr), every 6 months (100 hr), yearly (300 hr), and every 2 years. Many procedures require a qualified technician.

Engine Oil:

  • Checking: Check oil level before each use. The engine will not start with low or no oil.
  • Changing: Oil should be changed after the break-in period and regularly thereafter. The manual provides instructions for draining old oil and refilling with the appropriate SAE viscosity grade based on outdoor temperature.

Fuel System:

  • Checking/Filling: Fill the fuel tank in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources. Use 87+ octane unleaded gasoline treated with a fuel stabilizer. Do not use gasoline with more than 10% ethanol.
  • Fuel Filter/Carburetor: Regular cleaning of the fuel tank, filter, and carburetor is recommended.

Air Filter:

  • Cleaning: The foam air filter element should be washed in warm water with mild detergent, rinsed, squeezed dry, soaked in lightweight oil, and squeezed again.

Spark Plug:

  • Maintenance: Inspect, clean, and adjust the spark plug gap regularly. Replace if cracked or chipped. The manual specifies recommended spark plug brands and part numbers.

Long-Term Storage: For storage, the engine should be cleaned, the fuel system drained or treated with stabilizer, and the spark plug removed to add oil to the cylinder. The pump should be drained of water.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes comprehensive troubleshooting guides for common pump and engine problems, offering possible causes and likely solutions. For technical questions, users are directed to call 1-888-866-5797.
