This document outlines the instructions for the "Wild Kratts: Race Around the World" board game, designed for 2-4 players aged 5 and up.
Function Description:
The game's objective is to be the first player to collect a Creature Power Suit card from each of the four distinct habitats on the game board and then return to the Tortuga HQ (Start/Finish space). Players navigate the game board by spinning a spinner and moving their character pieces along a path, encountering various spaces that trigger different actions and opportunities to collect game components.
Important Technical Specifications (Game Components):
The game includes several key components:
- 4 Playing Pieces: Representing the main characters: Chris, Martin, Aviva, and Koki. These are likely standee-style pieces that fit into plastic bases.
- 16 Creature Power Suit Cards: These cards are central to the game's objective. There are 4 cards for each of the four habitats, color-coded to match their respective habitat spaces on the board.
- 16 Creature Power Discs: These discs provide additional strategic depth, allowing players to utilize "Power Paths." There are 4 discs for each habitat, also color-coded to match.
- Spinner Card with Plastic Spinner: This is the primary mechanism for determining movement during a player's turn. It likely features numbers or symbols that dictate how many spaces a player moves or specific actions they can take (e.g., "Swipe").
- Game Board: The central playing surface, featuring a path, four distinct habitats (Sonoran Desert, African Savanna, Indonesian Rainforest, Ocean), and special spaces. The habitats are color-coded: yellow for Sonoran Desert, orange for African Savanna, teal for Indonesian Rainforest, and pink for Ocean.
- Instruction Manual: This document itself, providing detailed rules and setup information.
Usage Features:
Setup:
- Creature Power Suit Cards: Place these cards on the large square spaces within each of the four habitats on the game board. The cards are color-coded to match their habitat spaces (e.g., pink cards on the pink Ocean space, yellow cards on the yellow Sonoran Desert space).
- Creature Power Disc Tokens: Place these tokens on the designated Creature Power Disc spaces within each habitat. Like the Power Suit cards, these discs and their spaces are color-coded to match the habitats.
- Character Selection: Each player chooses one of the four character playing pieces (Chris, Martin, Aviva, or Koki).
- Starting Position: All players place their chosen character pieces on the Start/Finish space, which also serves as Tortuga HQ.
Playing the Game:
- Turn Order: The youngest player begins the game. Play then proceeds to the left (clockwise).
- Movement: On each turn, a player spins the spinner. The player then moves their character piece the number of spaces indicated by the spinner along the path in a clockwise direction.
Collecting Creature Power Suits:
- When a player lands on or passes the designated Creature Power Suit space within a habitat, they must stop on that space.
- The player then picks up the Creature Power Suit card that matches their character from that habitat.
- A player's turn ends after collecting a Power Suit.
- Players cannot collect other players' Creature Power Suits.
- If a player already possesses their Creature Power Suit from a particular habitat, they do not need to stop on that habitat's Power Suit space; they treat it as a regular space and continue moving.
Collecting Creature Power Discs:
- When a player finishes their move by exact count on a Creature Power Disc space, they collect the Creature Power Disc for that habitat.
- Players are allowed to collect multiple Creature Power Discs from habitats.
- Swipe Spaces: Players can also collect Creature Power Discs by landing on a "Swipe" space by exact count, or by spinning "Swipe" on the spinner. When this occurs, the player can choose to:
- Take any one Creature Power Disc from any other player.
- Take any one Creature Power Disc from any habitat on the game board.
Combining Creature Power Suits and Creature Power Discs (Power Paths):
- Once a player has collected both their Creature Power Suit AND a Creature Power Disc from a specific habitat, they become eligible to use the "Power Path" associated with that habitat.
- Power Paths are shortcuts designed to speed up movement around the game board.
- Players who have both the Power Suit and Power Disc for a habitat can use its Power Path whenever they reach a Power Path Space.
- Using a Power Path counts as one space of movement.
- If a player reaches a Power Path Space but has no moves left, they can use the Power Path on their next turn.
- Players can only move on Power Paths in one direction, starting on a Power Path Space and ending on another space.
- If a player loses all Creature Power Discs from a habitat, they can no longer use the Power Paths in that habitat.
Special Spaces on the Game Board:
- Swipe: (As described above for collecting Power Discs).
- Move Back/Move Forward: When a player lands on a "Move" space by exact count, they must immediately move forward or backward along the path by the number of spaces indicated. They then follow the instructions of the space they land on after this forced movement. Examples include "JOIN A HERD OF GAZELLES! LEAP FORWARD 2 SPACES".
- Catch a Ride!: If a player lands on a "Catch a Ride!" space by exact count, they must immediately move to another "Catch a Ride!" space elsewhere on the board. If they pass a Creature Power Suit space during this forced movement, they do not stop to collect the Power Suit.
- Switch: When a player lands on a "Switch" space by exact count, they must immediately switch locations on the game board with another player.
Winning the Game:
- As soon as a player has collected all four of their character's Creature Power Suits (one from each habitat), they must begin to move directly towards the Tortuga HQ (Start/Finish space).
- The first player to reach Tortuga HQ with all four of their character's Creature Power Suits is declared the winner.
- Players who have all four Power Suits stop immediately upon reaching Tortuga HQ, even if they have remaining moves.
- Players who reach Tortuga HQ without all four of their Power Suits count the Start/Finish space as a regular space and continue moving along the path.
Maintenance Features:
The manual does not explicitly detail maintenance features for the game components. However, general board game maintenance practices would apply:
- Keep components clean and dry.
- Store the game in its original box to prevent loss or damage to pieces.
- Handle cards and playing pieces with care to avoid bending, tearing, or breaking.
