Overview

The Prestan Professional Infant Manikin is a training device designed for CPR education, offering realistic features and feedback mechanisms to enhance learning.

Function Description:

The Prestan Professional Infant Manikin serves as a realistic simulator for practicing infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). It is designed to provide trainees with an authentic experience, including visible chest rise during ventilation, audible feedback for compression depth, and visual feedback for compression rate. This comprehensive feedback system helps students master the correct techniques for infant CPR, ensuring they can perform life-saving interventions effectively. The manikin is suitable for a wide range of training environments, from individual practice to group instruction, and is available in various configurations to meet different educational needs.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Manikin Type: Infant Manikin
  • CPR Rate Monitor: Available as an included feature (models ending in "M") or as an optional add-on. The monitor provides visual feedback on compression rate and depth.
  • Compression Depth Feedback: Audible "click" when compression depth reaches 2 inches (can compress up to 2.4 inches).
  • Compression Rate Feedback (with CPR Rate Monitor):
    • Red light: <60 compressions per minute (cpm)
    • Yellow light: 60-80 cpm
    • First green light: 80-100 cpm
    • Second green light (two green lights): 100-120 cpm (recommended rate)
    • Rapidly flashing yellow light: >120 cpm
    • All lights off and red light blinking: Incorrect compression depth.
  • Visible Chest Rise: Achieved through the Face-Shield/Lung-Bag system during administered CPR breaths.
  • Skin Tones: Available in Medium Skin Tone (models ending in "-MS") and Dark Skin Tone (models ending in "-DS").
  • Power Source (CPR Rate Monitor): 2-AA (1.5V) batteries (included as a courtesy, not warrantied).
  • Warranty: Three-year limited warranty against defects in workmanship or materials under normal use.

Usage Features:

  • Realistic Design: The manikin's face and body skin are made from a consistent material, providing a realistic feel for training.
  • Face-Shield/Lung-Bag System: This integrated system combines a face shield and a lung bag into a single, t-shaped airway. It ensures a visible chest rise when breaths are administered, simulating real-life ventilation. The face shield hooks onto buttons under the manikin's ears for secure placement.
  • CPR Clicker: A round disk located in the center of the manikin's back, under the skin and foam, provides an audible "click" when the correct compression depth (2 inches) is achieved. This tactile and auditory feedback helps students learn proper compression technique.
  • CPR Rate Monitor (Optional/Included): This patented feedback feature, located in the diaper area, uses LED lights to guide students on the correct compression rate. It helps maintain the recommended 100-120 compressions per minute. The monitor is turned on and off by pressing a button.
  • Airway Management: The manikin's head can be tilted back to open the airway, a crucial step in CPR.
  • Consumable Components: Face-Shield/Lung-Bags are consumable and should be changed between classes if breaths are administered by mouth, or more often if excessive moisture builds up. Replacement parts are available from authorized distributors.
  • Sanitary Practice: For shared manikins, it is recommended that each student use their own sanitary and disposable mouth protector, such as a fitted Face Shield (PP-IFS-50) or a Rescue Mask Adaptor (10076-PPA).
  • Easy Installation of Lung-Bag: The manual provides clear, step-by-step instructions with diagrams for installing the Face-Shield/Lung-Bag, including folding the bag and securing it within the manikin.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive troubleshooting guide is included, addressing common issues related to the CPR Rate Monitor, torso, and Face-Shield/Lung-Bag, with suggested solutions. This helps users quickly resolve problems and ensure continuous training.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • The manikin's skin can be cleaned with a mixture of soap and water.
    • For extremely dirty areas, common household cleaners like Formula 409®, Windex®, or Vim may be used cautiously.
    • Non-bleach disinfecting wipes (e.g., Clorox® or Lysol®) are convenient.
    • Melamine foam erasers (e.g., Mr. Clean Magic Eraser®) can be used cautiously for stains.
    • Cleaners containing wax, oil, or citrus (d-Limonene) are not recommended.
    • Any unlisted cleaner should be tested in a non-visible area of the manikin for 24 hours before full use.
    • The face skin can be sanitized with alcohol wipes or by soaking in a solution of 1/4 cup bleach mixed with one gallon of water for 10 minutes.
    • The upper chest foam and skin inside the manikin should also be wiped for sanitation.
    • Replacement face and torso skins are available for purchase.
  • Storage:
    • Store manikins in their nylon carry bag(s).
    • For added protection, store the manikin inside the carry bag and then inside the original shipping box.
    • Avoid stacking manikins unless they are in their original shipping box or other protective containers.
    • The nylon carry bag is designed only for the manikin(s) and should not be used to store other belongings to prevent damage.
    • Store manikins in a cool, dry area, at temperatures between 50°-70°F (10°-21°C) and 50% relative humidity.
    • For storage longer than one month, it is recommended to remove the batteries from the CPR Rate Monitor.
  • Battery Replacement: The CPR Rate Monitor requires 2-AA (1.5V) batteries. Instructions for installation and replacement are provided in the troubleshooting guide.
  • Replacement Parts: Components like the CPR Rate Monitor, Face-Shield/Lung-Bags, CPR Clicker, and Infant Monitor Cover can be purchased separately from authorized distributors.
  • Warranty Service: In case of defects or warranty claims, users should contact their Prestan Authorized Distributor. The warranty covers repair or replacement of defective components for three years from the date of purchase, excluding transportation costs. The warranty is void if product failure is due to misuse, mishandling, unauthorized modifications, or use of unauthorized parts.
