Overview

The PROFORM® ECLIPSE hydrotherapy spa is designed to provide a relaxing and therapeutic experience in the comfort of your home. This innovative spa accommodates five adults and offers a range of features for hydrotherapy, heating, filtration, and adjustable jets.

Function Description

The primary function of the PROFORM® ECLIPSE hydrotherapy spa is to provide hydrotherapy, a proven method for soothing tired muscles, relieving stress, and promoting blood flow. The spa achieves this through warm water and powerful massage action from various types of jets.

Key Components and Controls:

  • Spa Shell: The main basin where users soak.
  • Console: The central control panel for operating the spa, including temperature settings, jet activation, and underwater light.
  • Filter: A removable component for cleaning the water.
  • Access Panel: Provides access to internal components for maintenance and wiring.
  • Locking Buckle: Secures the spa cover.
  • Pillows: Three removable pillows for comfort, offering two positions (high or low).
  • Adjustable, Directional Jets (4): These jets can be pivoted to direct water flow. Turning the rims counterclockwise opens them, while turning clockwise closes them. Closing jets can increase water pressure to other jets.
  • Adjustable, Pulsing Jet (1): Produces a soothing, pulsing massage. Rims are turned counterclockwise to open and clockwise to close.
  • Large Rotary Jet (1): Features two jets that provide a pulsing, spinning massage. Turned counterclockwise to open and clockwise to close.
  • Whirly Jets (4): Provide a continuous, whirling massage.
  • Small Adjustable, Directional Jets (3): Can be pivoted to direct water flow. Rims are turned to open and close.
  • Fixed Jets (2): These jets are always on.
  • Ozone Jet (optional): An optional ozone generator can be purchased and installed to utilize this jet, which helps sanitize the spa with minimal chemical treatment.
  • Skimmer: Cleans the surface of the water.
  • Temperature Probe: Monitors water temperature.
  • Underwater Light: Can be used for night operation.
  • Suction Vents (2): Located near the floor, these bring water into the pumps. The spa should never be operated without these covers in place.
  • Air Controls (L, M): Determine the amount of air flowing through the jets. Turning counterclockwise increases airflow, while turning clockwise decreases it.
  • Waterfall Valve: Adjusts the flow of the waterfall.
  • Waterfall: Provides a soothing sound and massage.

Usage Features

  • Temperature Control: The water temperature can be set between 80°F and 104°F using the "Temperature Up" and "Temperature Down" buttons on the console. The spa heats at approximately 6°F per hour with the cover on.
  • Jet Activation: The "Jet Button" turns the spa jets on and off. Pressing once activates gentle hydrotherapy (low speed), pressing again activates high speed, and a third press shuts them off.
  • Underwater Light: The "Light Button" controls the underwater light.
  • Automatic Mode: The spa features an automatic mode that heats and filters the water when left unattended, maintaining the set temperature.
  • GFCI Testing: The Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) must be tested before each use by pressing the "test" button. The spa should shut off, and pressing "reset" should resume normal operation. If it continues to run after "test," the GFCI is damaged and requires professional repair or replacement.
  • Water Flow Control: Air controls (L and M) adjust the air flow through corresponding jets. The waterfall knob adjusts the waterfall flow.
  • Filter Cycle Adjustment: The spa filters water every 12 hours. The duration of the filter cycle can be adjusted from 2 to 5 hours using the temperature buttons and jet button on the console.

Important Safety Instructions:

  • Drowning Risk: Supervise children at all times, attach the spa cover after each use, and be aware that spa heat can cause hyperthermia and unconsciousness, especially in conjunction with alcohol, drugs, or medication. Never use the spa alone.
  • Electrocution Risk: Never place any electrical appliance within 5 feet of the spa. The spa must be wired directly into a grounded circuit with a 30-amp GFCI by a qualified, licensed electrician.
  • Water Temperature: Never exceed 104°F. Temperatures between 100°F and 104°F are safe for healthy adults for short periods (10-15 minutes). Lower temperatures are recommended for children. Pregnant women should consult a physician and avoid temperatures above 100°F.
  • Hyperthermia: Prolonged immersion can cause hyperthermia, leading to dizziness, lethargy, drowsiness, fainting, and potential fetal damage. Limit use to 10 minutes at a time.
  • Health Conditions: Individuals over 35 or with pre-existing health problems (obesity, heart disease, high/low blood pressure, circulatory problems, diabetes) should consult a physician before use.
  • Chemicals: Keep all chemicals away from children and pets. Always follow label directions for chemical use.
  • Spa Cover: Do not sit on the spa cover or place objects on it. Always attach and lock the spa cover when not in use.
  • Sun Exposure: Do not expose an empty spa to direct sunlight, as this can cause significant damage (blistering, warping) to the shell, which is not covered under warranty.
  • Suction Fittings: Never remove or alter suction fitting covers. Do not operate if a suction guard is missing or broken. Keep hair and body parts away from suction guards.

Maintenance Features

Daily Maintenance:

  • Check water level and refill as needed.
  • Check pH balance and sanitizer level, making adjustments as necessary.

Weekly Maintenance:

  • Clean the spa shell at the waterline.
  • Check and thoroughly clean the filter.
  • Replace the filter if needed.

Monthly Maintenance:

  • Clean the spa cover.
  • Soak the filter in a trisodium phosphate (TSP) solution for two hours, then rinse.
  • Replace the filter if needed.

Every Three Months:

  • Drain the spa and refill with clean water. Sanitize and test pH.
  • Check for leaks around the pump or pipe joints.
  • Clean the interior of the spa (do not use solvents or waxes).

Water Chemistry:

  • Maintain a slightly alkaline pH level between 7.2 and 7.8. Improper pH can cause mineral buildup, corrosion of metal parts, and reduced sanitizer effectiveness.
  • Test water regularly with a pH test kit. Use pH increaser (soda ash) or pH reducer (sodium bisulfate) as needed.
  • Sanitize the spa using a solid bromine concentrate or other recommended agents from a local pool and spa supplier.

Filter Cleaning:

  • Turn off power.
  • Remove filter cover, basket, diverter, cartridge plug, and filter cartridge.
  • Rinse the cartridge with a hose. For stubborn dirt, soak in a cleaning solution from a pool and spa supply store.
  • Inspect for damage and replace if necessary.
  • Re-attach components.

Draining the Spa:

  • Drain the spa at least four times a year, or more often depending on user load.
  • Adjust temperature to the lowest setting, then shut off power at the circuit breaker or GFCI.
  • Remove the access panel.
  • Pull out the drain hose, remove the cap, open the valve knob, attach a garden hose, and drain the spa.
  • Once empty, remove the garden hose, close the valve knob, re-attach the cap, and return the drain hose.
  • Re-attach the access panel, refill, and treat the water.

Draining the Pump:

  • If storing the spa for over thirty days or in freezing temperatures, drain the jet pump.
  • Turn off power, remove the access panel, locate the jet pump, and loosen the indicated collar.

Winter Use and Care:

  • For winter storage, drain the spa completely, remove all remaining water from the shell, and dry it.
  • Use a wet/dry vacuum to remove water from jets (lowest setting first, then highest).
  • Drain the pump, and for additional protection, remove and store it in a climate-controlled room.
  • Clean the spa shell and filter.
  • Shut off power at the breaker and label it to prevent accidental activation.
  • Re-attach the access panel and spa cover.

Light Bulb Replacement:

  • Turn off power.
  • Remove the access panel.
  • Locate the light housing, turn it counterclockwise to remove it.
  • Pull out the old bulb and insert a new one.
  • Re-attach the light housing and access panel.
