This document describes the Progressive Industries Smart Surge Protector (SSP), available in models SSP-30XL and SSP-50XL. These devices are designed to protect recreational vehicles (RVs) from power surges and improper wiring conditions.

Function Description

The Smart Surge Protector (SSP) acts as an intermediary between an AC power source and an RV's electrical system. Its primary function is to safeguard the RV from damaging power surges and to alert the user to various wiring conditions at the power pedestal. While the device will continue to operate under most wiring conditions, it emphasizes the importance of correcting any non-optimal wiring for the best protection.

Both models feature 3-Color LED Indicator Lights for displaying wiring conditions. The SSP-50XL specifically includes a Dual Line Polarity Tester. Both units are described as weather-resistant and include a pull handle on the plug for ease of use.

Usage Features

The installation and usage of the SSP devices involve three main steps:

Initial Plug-in (SSP to AC Power):
- Plug the Smart Surge Protector into the AC power source.
- Crucially, do NOT plug in your RV at this time.
- Verify that the GREEN surge indicator LED(s) is on.
Verify Wiring Conditions:
- Observe which LEDs illuminate to determine the wiring condition.
- Correct Wiring (Diagram A): Both the GREEN and BLUE LEDs are on. This is the optimal condition.
- Reverse Polarity (Diagram B): Indicated by specific LED patterns.
- Open Neutral (Diagram C): Indicated by specific LED patterns.
- Open Ground (Diagram D): Indicated by specific LED patterns.
- The device will still function under non-optimal wiring conditions (Reverse Polarity, Open Neutral, Open Ground), but it is strongly recommended to have Campground Maintenance correct these issues before proceeding.
Plug in RV Power:
- Once the wiring condition has been verified (and ideally corrected if not optimal), plug your RV's power cord into the Smart Surge Protector.

The devices are portable and designed for easy plug-and-play operation. They are proudly made in the USA.

Maintenance Features

Lifetime Warranty: Progressive Industries, Inc. (PII) offers a non-transferable Lifetime Warranty on the SSP-30XL and SSP-50XL models (along with other EMS models) to the original owner, covering defects in material and workmanship. This warranty is exclusive to PII and applies to products purchased from an authorized dealer, retailer, or seller.

Warranty Coverage Details:

Products must be properly installed and maintained.
PII is not responsible for neglect or misuse of the product(s).
If a properly installed unit proves defective under normal use, PII will repair or replace it at its discretion.
The warranty does not cover unauthorized labor.
Exclusions: The Lifetime Warranty specifically excludes the "All Weather Shield Assembly" for the SSP-30XL and SSP-50XL models.

Circumstances Not Covered by Warranty:

Natural disasters (e.g., hurricanes, floods, earthquakes).
Vehicle accidents (on highways, streets, or off-road).
Failure to remove or unplug the product prior to driving off.
Failure to ensure the pedestal plug is clean and maintains a snug fit, and that the RV cord is clean when plugging into the portable unit.
