ESCRIPTION
The most outstanding features of this Dimension Q-
Series DIN-rail power supply are the high efficiency and
the small size, which are achieved by a synchronous
rectification and further novel design details. The Q-
Series is part of the Dimension family, existing alongside
the lower featured C-Series.
With short-term peak power capability of 150% and
built-in large sized output capacitors, these features
help start motors, charge capacitors and absorb reverse
energy and often allow a unit of a lower wattage class
to be used.
High immunity to transients and power surges as well as
low electromagnetic emission makes usage in nearly
every environment possible.
The integrated output power manager, a wide range
input voltage design and virtually no input inrush
current make installation and usage simple. Diagnostics
are easy due to a green DC-ok LED and red overload
LED.
Unique quick-connect spring-clamp terminals allow a
safe and fast installation and a large international
approval package for a variety of applications makes
this unit suitable for nearly every situation.

Overview

The PULS Dimension Q-Series QS3.241 is a 24V, 3.4A single-phase input power supply designed for industrial control, process control, monitoring, and measurement equipment. It stands out for its high efficiency and compact size, achieved through synchronous rectification and other innovative design features.

Function Description:

The QS3.241 provides a stable 24V DC output with an adjustment range of 24-28V. It can continuously supply 3.4A at 24V or 3A at 28V. The device features a "BonusPower®" short-term power capability, allowing it to deliver up to 5A at 24V (120W) or 4.5A at 28V (126W) for typical durations of 4 seconds. This peak power capability is beneficial for starting motors, charging capacitors, and absorbing reverse energy, potentially allowing the use of a lower wattage unit for certain applications. The output is electronically protected against overload, no-load, and short-circuits. In case of an internal power supply defect, a redundant circuit limits the maximum output voltage to 34Vdc (typical), with the unit shutting down and automatically attempting to restart.

The power supply accepts a wide AC input voltage range of 100-240V (85-276Vac continuous operation) and is suitable for TN, TT, and IT mains networks. It can also be powered from DC sources, with an input range of 88-375Vdc. An active inrush limitation circuit limits the input inrush current after turn-on, contributing to simple installation. The device is designed for convection cooling and does not require an external fan, but proper clearances are necessary for optimal airflow.

Usage Features:

The QS3.241 incorporates quick-connect spring-clamp terminals for safe and fast installation, suitable for both field and factory environments. The input terminals are located on the bottom and output terminals on the top for standard DIN-rail mounting. Other mounting orientations are possible but may require a reduction in output current or ambient temperature.

Diagnostics are made easy with a green DC-OK LED, which illuminates when the output voltage is >90% of the adjusted value, and a red Overload LED, which turns on when the output voltage is <90% or in case of a short circuit. The Overload LED flashes if the unit switches off due to over-temperature.

The device is highly immune to transients and power surges and exhibits low electromagnetic emission, making it suitable for nearly any environment. It is approved for branch circuits up to 20A without additional protection, but an external fuse or circuit breaker may be required if the supplying branch has a higher ampacity.

The power supply can be used for charging lead-acid or maintenance-free batteries (two 12V batteries in series). Output voltage adjustment is performed via a multi-turn potentiometer located under a flap on the front side.

For increased output power or redundancy, multiple QS3.241 units can be paralleled. For redundancy, decoupling diodes (such as those in the YRM2.DIODE redundancy module) are recommended to prevent a failing unit from becoming a load. Units can also be connected in series for higher output voltages, up to a sum of 150Vdc, provided appropriate protection against touching is implemented for voltages above 60Vdc.

The unit is designed to supply various loads, including unlimited capacitive and inductive loads. It can also operate on two phases of a three-phase system, provided the supplying voltage is within limits and appropriate input protection is used.

Maintenance Features:

The QS3.241 is a robust and reliable device with a long lifetime expectancy, supported by its high-quality electrolytic capacitors. It is designed for minimal maintenance, with no user-replaceable internal input fuse. The unit should not be modified or repaired, and opening the unit is discouraged due to the presence of high voltages. Regular checks of wiring and clearances are recommended to ensure continued safe operation. The device's resistance to back-feeding loads further contributes to its low maintenance requirements in systems with decelerating motors or inductors.
