Overview

The PuraFlame Western Electric Fireplace Insert is a heating appliance designed to provide supplemental heat and the aesthetic appeal of a fireplace. It comes in several models: EF42D, EF43D, EF44D, EF45D, and EF302A.

Function Description:

This electric fireplace insert functions as a heater and a decorative element, simulating a flame effect. It is intended for residential use only and serves as a supplemental heat source, not a primary one. The device offers multiple flame settings and two heater settings (750W and 1500W), along with a thermostat for temperature control. It can be operated via a manual control panel located on the unit or a remote control.

The unit features a polarized plug for safety.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The fireplace insert can be recessed into a wall or inserted into a cabinet or wood mantel. A minimum depth of 8.1 inches is suggested for proper ventilation in recessed installations. If the existing opening is slightly narrow, the handles on both sides of the unit can be removed.
  • Power: Always plug the heater directly into a properly grounded 120V AC 15-Amp wall outlet. Do not use extension cords or relocatable power taps. Ensure the plug fits tightly to prevent overheating.
  • Manual Control Panel:
    • Power Switch: Turns the main power on/off. A long "beep" sound indicates the switch is turned ON. Turning it OFF will cause the remote control to lose memory for function settings.
    • Flame Control: Offers three flame settings (Flame A: full bright flame + little blue, Flame B: full bright flame, Flame C: half bright flame).
    • Heater Control: Cycles between Low (750W), High (1500W), and Heater Off. An indicator light shows when the heater is on. The fan operates for about 10 seconds before and after the heater turns off.
    • Thermostat: A rotary switch to set the desired room temperature. Turning it clockwise increases the temperature.
  • Remote Control: The remote control allows for power on/off, flame control, heater settings (Low/High), and crackling sound control. The power button on the remote puts the unit in standby mode or turns off all functions. For first-time use, Flame A will be turned on.
  • Crackling Sound: The remote control allows cycling through normal crackling sound, low crackling sound, high crackling with wind sound, normal crackling with wind sound, and low crackling with wind sound off.
  • Temperature Limiting Control: The heater is equipped with a temperature limiting control. If it reaches an unsafe temperature, the heater will automatically turn off. To reset, unplug the power cord from the outlet, turn the power switch on the control panel to OFF, wait at least 5 minutes, inspect for blocked vents, and then plug the power cord back into the outlet.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Keep combustible materials at least 3 feet (0.9m) from the front, sides, and rear of the heater.
    • Do not operate with a damaged cord or plug, or if the heater malfunctions or is damaged.
    • Do not run the power cord under carpeting or furniture.
    • Do not insert foreign objects into ventilation or exhaust openings.
    • Do not block air intakes or exhaust.
    • Do not use in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are stored.
    • Do not use in bathrooms, laundry rooms, or near water.
    • Always unplug the heater when servicing, moving, or leaving unattended.
    • Do not use with solid-state speed control devices.
    • Do not modify the heater.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning: Always turn the heater OFF and unplug the power cord before cleaning or performing maintenance. Do not immerse in water or spray with water.
  • Metal Parts: Buff with a soft, slightly dampened cloth using a citrus oil-based product. Do not use brass polish or household cleaners that may damage the metal trim.
  • Glass: Clean with a good quality glass cleaner and dry with a paper towel or lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cleansers or liquid sprays that could scratch the surface.
  • Plastic Parts: Wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth and a mild solution of dish soap and warm water. Avoid abrasive cleansers or liquid sprays.
  • Vents: Use a vacuum or duster to remove dust and dirt from the heater and vent areas.
  • Exterior: Clean the exterior with a slightly damp cloth or duster.
  • Electrical and Moving Parts: The fan motors are lubricated at the factory and do not require further lubrication. Electrical components are integrated and not user-serviceable.
  • Storage: Store the heater in a clean, dry place when not in use.
  • Replacement Parts: Only use replacement parts supplied by the manufacturer. Modifying the fireplace voids all warranties. No internal parts are user-serviceable.
