Overview

The IQ Remote is a 7-inch secondary tablet designed to extend the functionality and accessibility of the IQ Panel 2 security system. It serves as an additional control point, allowing users to interact with their security system from various locations within their home or business. Up to three IQ Remote tablets can be paired with a single IQ Panel 2, providing multiple access points for system management.

Function Description

The primary function of the IQ Remote is to act as a secondary interface for the IQ Panel 2. This means it mirrors many of the core features and controls available on the main panel, allowing users to arm or disarm the system, view system status, and interact with connected devices. By providing additional access points, the IQ Remote enhances convenience and flexibility, eliminating the need to always be near the main IQ Panel 2 to manage security settings.

When the system is disarmed, the IQ Remote displays the current time and date, along with local weather information, including high and low temperatures. This provides a quick glance at essential daily information. In an armed state, or when an event occurs, the tablet will display relevant security information, keeping users informed about the status of their premises.

The IQ Remote connects to the IQ Panel 2 over a secure Wi-Fi network (802.11 B, G, N, AC). This wireless connection ensures seamless communication between the secondary tablet and the main panel, allowing for real-time updates and control. It is crucial that the IQ Remote is connected to the same 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network as the IQ Panel 2 for proper operation.

Usage Features

The IQ Remote is designed for ease of use and flexible installation. It can be set up in two primary configurations: wall-mounted or using an optional table stand.

For wall mounting, users first choose a suitable location. The wall mount bracket is then secured to the wall using the provided hardware. Once the bracket is in place, the power supply is connected to the back of the IQ Remote, and the tablet is slid onto the wall mount bracket, securing it in position. This provides a fixed, clean installation that keeps the tablet readily accessible.

Alternatively, for a more portable or temporary setup, the optional table stand can be used. To install the table stand, it is connected to the upper holes on the back of the device and snapped into place. The power supply is then connected to the device. This allows the IQ Remote to be placed on any flat surface, such as a desk, counter, or nightstand, offering flexibility in placement and the ability to move the tablet as needed.

Powering up the device is straightforward: users press and hold the power button until the screen illuminates, which typically takes approximately 3-5 seconds.

Connecting the IQ Remote to Wi-Fi is a critical step for its operation. Users navigate through the settings to activate Wi-Fi. From the list of available networks, they select their desired secure network (e.g., "Whitehouse" or "Your Neighbor") and enter the corresponding Wi-Fi credentials (password). It is important to verify that the IQ Remote successfully connects to the network in the chosen installation location to ensure reliable communication with the IQ Panel 2.

Pairing the IQ Remote with the IQ Panel 2 involves a series of steps performed on the main IQ Panel 2. Users access the "Settings" menu, then "Advanced Settings," and enter the Installer Code (default is 1111). From there, they navigate to "Installation," then "Devices," and finally "WI-FI Devices." Within this section, they select "IQ Remote Devices" and then "Pair." Simultaneously, on the IQ Remote, users will touch "PAIR" to initiate the pairing process.

Once paired, the IQ Remote will synchronize with the IQ Panel 2 over the network. During this synchronization, if a software update is available, it will automatically download and install. This ensures that the IQ Remote is always running the latest software version, benefiting from new features and security enhancements. After synchronization and any updates are complete, the home screen will appear on the IQ Remote, indicating it is ready for use. The process for adding additional IQ Remote tablets is the same, allowing users to set up multiple control points throughout their property.

Maintenance Features

The IQ Remote is designed for minimal maintenance, primarily focusing on software updates and ensuring a stable power and network connection.

Software updates are handled automatically over the network. When the IQ Remote synchronizes with the IQ Panel 2, it checks for available updates and downloads them if necessary. This ensures that the device remains current with the latest features, security patches, and performance improvements without requiring manual intervention from the user.

Maintaining a stable power supply is essential for continuous operation. The device is powered via a dedicated power supply, which should remain connected to ensure the tablet is always charged and operational.

A robust Wi-Fi connection is also crucial for the IQ Remote's functionality. Users should ensure that the chosen installation location has strong Wi-Fi signal strength to prevent connectivity issues. If the Wi-Fi connection is lost or unstable, the IQ Remote may not be able to communicate effectively with the IQ Panel 2, impacting its ability to control the system or display real-time information. Regular checks of the Wi-Fi network status on both the IQ Remote and the IQ Panel 2 can help prevent such issues.

Physical maintenance is limited to keeping the screen and device clean. As a touchscreen device, occasional wiping with a soft, lint-free cloth can help maintain screen clarity and responsiveness.

In case of any issues or questions, Qolsys provides customer support through a dedicated phone number and email address, ensuring users can get assistance with troubleshooting or setup. This support system is a key maintenance feature, offering peace of mind and ensuring the longevity and proper functioning of the IQ Remote.
