CONTROL SURFACE INSTALL AND ADJUST
Once the Control Surfaces are installed they will need to be checked and adjusted
Ideally the Ailerons can be installed and adjusted prior to installing the Tail Section.
AILERONS: First step is to assure the Root Tube Bellcrank is PARALLEL to the
Root Tube. This accomplished by adjusting the 70530 Fork (Page 8-5) and the
10701 Rod End Bearing (Page 8-11). Tie the Control Stick into Neutral Position
as shown in the Section. Best if same amount of threads are exposed on both ends.
Apply LOCTITE to Jam Nuts when complete. Next is to attach the four aileron cables
to the Root Tube Bellcrank. Once installed the Compression Strut Bellcranks should be Parallel
to the Compression Struts. Slight Adjustment to the cable length can be accomplished by
Twisting or Untwisting the cables.
Once Ailerons are installed their position needs to be adjusted. This is shown on Section 10
Page 7. These instructions indicate the inboard hole is used on the Compression Strut
Bellcrank. This location provides ease of motion but is limited on travel. Best to start at this
location. IMPORTANT that BOTH ailerons are adjusted identically in relation to the wing.
RUDDER ATTACH: The Eyebolts on the Rudder attach to the Hinge Forks on the Tail Skid.
Use Clevis Pin (10440) and Secure with Safety Ring (20310). The Rudder Cables (91113)
attach to the Rudder Control Horns using the Shackle (20320), Clevis Pin (10440) and Safety
Ring (20310). Attach Rudder Cables to Foot Pedals as shown in Section 6 Page 7. Note: The
Safety Ring should be on the side of your Foot. This prevents the Safety Ring from Possibly
being jammed by the other pedal.
Eye Bolt Adjustment (AN43B-15a) is later on this page.
ELEVATOR: PAGE 2-12 depicts the Hinge assembly for the elevator to attach to the Stabilizer.
Connect the Center hinge first then the two outboard hinges.
Attach the Elevator Push Pull Tube to the Elevator Control Arm.
ELEVATOR / RUDDER ADJUSTMENT: The Elevator Control is via the Control Stick which is
attached to the Seat Mount Assembly. Before attempting to secure the Elevator Adjustment
we need to set the Seat Position to its Final Location and Angle.
Sit in the seat and put your feet on the Rudder Pedals. Adjust the Seat Position on the Tri-Bar
Cross Tube as shown in Section 8 Page 2. If you installed the Seat / Mount Assembly per the
instructions on that page and the position is comfortable, then leave it there, if not, Now is the
time to establish the final location / position.
RUDDER PEDALS: The Adjustment using the stack of washers on the EYEBOLT is what sets
the Pedal angle. The SPRINGS hold the pedals forward. If you have the Steerable Nose
Wheel Kit then the Push Rods hold the pedals in place. For these instructions we assume your
using the SPRINGS. Once the pedals are at a comfortable angle, you now set the Stops. Best
if the plane is sitting on the Tail Skid and the nose wheel is in the air. AN4-15a Bolts and
Washers under the Heel of the Pedals are the Stop. Section 6 Page 8.
The Pedal Stops are set to stop the Rudder before contacting the Elevator. When the Pedals
are EVEN the Rudder should trail Straight Back.
ELEVATOR CONTROL STICK: With all three wheels on the Ground, position the Control
Stick so that it is in the Vertical Position i.e. pointing STRAIGHT UP. With the stick straight
up…. the Elevator should be inline with the Horizontal Stabilizer.
