The Shade Tech® Instant Canopy is a portable, temporary shelter designed for outdoor use, offering protection from sun and light weather conditions. It is not intended for permanent installation or use in severe weather.
The primary function of the Shade Tech® Instant Canopy is to provide quick and easy shelter. It features an assembled frame that expands and contracts, allowing for rapid setup and takedown. A canopy top attaches to the frame, creating a shaded area. The adjustable legs enable multiple height levels, adapting to various user preferences and terrains. The canopy is designed for temporary use, making it suitable for events, recreational activities, or any situation requiring a quick and portable shade solution.
Setting up the Shade Tech® Instant Canopy involves a few straightforward steps. First, the canopy should be placed in the center of the desired setup area. With a partner, users hold the two outer legs on opposite sides of the frame, lifting slightly for clearance, and then walk backward to extend the frame to a full arm's length (approximately 4 feet). To ensure smooth operation, it is recommended to spray silicone lubricant on the outer legs. Next, the canopy top is placed over the top of the frame, and its corners are secured to the frame using hook and loop straps, either under plastic caps or steel brackets. The middle frame section, marked "OPEN," is then lifted, and users walk backward slowly until the frame is fully extended. Care should be taken to avoid pinching hands or fingers during this step. At each corner, the leg of the frame is held with one hand while the slider is lifted with the other hand. The locking button is pushed in while pulling the slider up until it pops through, securing the leg in place. For commercial series, sliders will lock in place as shown. Finally, any remaining side hook and loop straps are secured to the frame. The adjustable legs allow for multiple height levels; users simply lift a leg and adjust the inner leg up or down until the button pops into place.
Taking down the canopy is equally simple. First, each leg is reduced to its shortest position. At each corner, the locking button is pushed in, and the slider is pulled down slowly until the button pops out above the slider. For commercial units, the ring is pulled out to move the sliders down. The middle frame section, marked "CLOSE," is then held, lifted slightly, and users walk towards their partner as the frame folds in. It's important to keep walking until the frame is about halfway closed, again taking care to avoid pinching hands or fingers. The outside legs are then held, and the canopy continues to close as users walk towards their partner. The completely folded canopy should stand up on its own. If the canopy came with a wheeled bag, it is unzipped, the cord (for WX8 models) is loosened, and the bag is slid down slowly until the entire canopy is inside. The canopy is then inverted, and the zipper is shut. If the canopy has a polyethylene top, it should be removed before inserting the frame into the bag.
The canopy is designed for temporary use only and should not be used as a permanent shelter. It is crucial to avoid setting up or continuing to use the canopy in rain, wind, or storm conditions, especially lightning storms, as this can damage the canopy and pose a danger to users. Setting up on steep inclines should also be avoided. The provided stakes should always be used to secure the canopy to the ground unless it is set up on concrete or asphalt. The canopy should never be left unattended.
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity of the Shade Tech® Instant Canopy. The canopy top should be hand-washed using only mild soap and water. Harsh detergents, abrasives, bleach, or machine washing should never be used, as these can damage the fabric. It is crucial to keep the canopy away from heat and flames at all times; barbecuing or building fires under the canopy is strictly prohibited. The tent fabric meets the flammability requirements of CPAI-84, but it can burn if left in continuous contact with any flame source. Applying any foreign substance to the tent fabric may render its flame-resistant properties ineffective.
Before storing, it is essential to ensure that the canopy top is completely dry. Storing a wet or damp canopy top can lead to mildew. If the canopy must be taken down while damp, the canopy top should be removed from the frame by unfastening the hook and loop straps. The frame should then be folded up, and the canopy top laid down fully open as soon as possible to allow it to dry completely. The canopy should never be folded or stored when wet or damp to prevent mildew.
For easier subsequent setup, the canopy top may remain in place, but to prolong its life, removing it during takedown is recommended. Regular application of silicone lubricant to the outer legs can improve the opening and closing action of the frame.
In case of any issues, missing parts, or questions, users are advised to contact Bravo Sports directly rather than the store of purchase. This ensures proper support and adherence to warranty conditions.
