Low Oil Level Switch Installation Instructions
Low oil level switch kits 113948K001 (for QT-5 & QT-7.5 compres-
sors) and 113948K002 (for PLT Series compressors) may be pur-
chased from your local Quincy Compressor Distributor. These kits
include all the parts needed for this installation. Perform the
following steps when replacing an existing switch or installing a new
switch:
Step 1) Before installing the switch, read and follow the in-
structions listed under Stopping for Compressor
Maintenance (See page 2).
Step 2) Loosen 3 cover setscrews (#10-32) and remove the
cover from the switch base (See Fig. 3).
Step 3) Apply pipe thread sealant to the 1/2-14 npt threads on
the switch base.
Step 4) Screw the switch base into the 1/2-14 npt crankcase
opening, which is in the lower left hand corner of the
crankcase on the carrier side (hand tighten).
Step 5) Wrench tighten the switch base approximately 1/2 to 1-
1/2 additional turns.
Step 6) Rotate the base shaft so that the switch lever is
approximately in the 10:00 o’clock position.
Step 7) Install the switch cover onto the base. The indicating
mark on the switch cover should be pointing to the
12:00 o’clock position (See Fig. 2). Damage may occur
to the micro switch (located inside the switch cover) if
the switch cover is rotated excessively, after it is
installed onto the switch base.
Step 8) Snap the float arm onto the base shaft inside the
crankcase. Note that the switch for QT Series compres-
sors (See Fig. 4) is equipped with two metal rings
positioned around the float. Do not remove these rings.
Step 9) Gently raise and lower the float to check for switch
operation. When the float is lowered, the switch should
open near the horizontal position. Either an ohmmeter
with a continuity check or a 12 volt DC test light can be
used to check switch operation.
Step 10) When retrofitting a compressor with a new low oil level
switch, attach guard # 113984 to the bearing carrier
with 2 #10-24 x .50 Taptite
®
screws (# 110511-
G07)torqued to 25-30 in.-lbs. (See Fig. 5).
Step 11) Attach the bearing carrier to the crankcase (torque bolts to 30 ft.-
lbs.). Add oil to the crankcase until the minimum oil level is reached
