Overview

The QWIK TUNE QT-11 is an automatic guitar and bass tuner designed for both electric and acoustic instruments, offering precise tuning capabilities and a range of useful features for musicians.

Function Description:

The primary function of the QT-11 is to accurately tune guitars and basses. It features an LCD meter with a needle display that indicates whether a string's pitch is flat (b), sharp (#), or in tune (O). The tuner also incorporates three LED indicators (Red, Green, Red) to provide quick visual feedback on tuning status. For electric guitars, the device connects via an "IN" jack. For acoustic guitars, it utilizes a built-in microphone to detect sound, requiring the instrument's sound hole to be positioned within 4-8 inches (100-200mm) of the "MIC" hole on the tuner's front.

Beyond its core tuning function, the QT-11 includes an Electronic Pitch Pipe. This feature allows users to generate specific tones (Low E, A, D, G, B, High E) as a reference for tuning severely out-of-tune strings. The pitch pipe is activated by a dedicated button, cycling through the tones and turning off with subsequent presses.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Tuning Range: The LCD meter displays the string being tuned at the top. The LED indicators provide feedback for pitches within -80 to +80 cents of the correct pitch.
  • Power Source: The device is powered by 2 AAA batteries.
  • Connectivity: Features an "IN" jack for electric guitars and a built-in microphone for acoustic guitars.
  • Automatic Shut-off: To conserve battery life, the QWIK TUNE® automatically shuts off after 2 minutes of non-use.
  • Display: LCD meter with a needle indicator and three LED indicators (Red, Green, Red).
  • Controls: ON/OFF button, Electronic Pitch Pipe button.

Usage Features:

  1. Instrument Connection:
    • Electric Guitars: Insert the instrument cable into the "IN" jack.
    • Acoustic Guitars: Hold the guitar so its sound hole is within 4-8 inches (100-200mm) of the "MIC" hole on the tuner's front.
  2. Power On: Press the ON button to activate the tuner.
  3. Tuning Process:
    • Strike any string on the instrument. The string's name (E, A, D, G, B, E) will appear at the top of the LCD meter.
    • Flat Pitch (b): If the needle stops to the left of "O," the string is flat. Increase string tension and strike the string again. Repeat until the needle aligns with "O."
    • Sharp Pitch (#): If the needle stops to the right of "O," the string is sharp. Decrease string tension and strike the string again. Repeat until the needle aligns with "O."
    • In Tune (O): When the needle lines up directly over the "O" on the meter, the string is in tune.
  4. LED Indicators:
    • RED (left): Indicates the string is -1 to -80 cents below the correct pitch.
    • GREEN: Indicates the string is in tune.
    • RED (right): Indicates the string is +1 to +80 cents above the correct pitch.
  5. Tuning Outside LED Range: If the string's pitch is greater than -80 or +80 cents from true pitch, the user should tighten or loosen the string until one of the LED's lights up, then proceed with fine-tuning.
  6. Sensitivity: The QWIK TUNE® is designed to be highly sensitive and responsive. If the LCD needle moves rapidly or erratically, especially with some guitars, striking the string more lightly can help stabilize the reading.
  7. Acoustic Tuning Environment: When tuning an acoustic guitar, it's recommended to minimize background noise (voices, other musical instruments, radio, etc.) to ensure accurate microphone detection.
  8. Electronic Pitch Pipe:
    • Activate by pressing the small button to the left of the ON/OFF button.
    • The first press will play the Low E tone.
    • Subsequent presses will cycle through A, D, G, B, and High E tones.
    • Pressing again after High E will turn off the pitch pipe.
    • These tones are useful for roughly tuning severely out-of-tune strings before fine-tuning with the meter.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: When the LCD display becomes faint, it indicates low battery power. Replace the batteries with 2 AAA batteries.
  • Automatic Power-Off: The tuner's automatic shut-off after 2 minutes of inactivity helps conserve battery life, reducing the frequency of battery replacement.

The QWIK TUNE QT-11 is a user-friendly and effective tuning solution, providing clear visual feedback and a helpful pitch pipe function, all within a compact and portable design.
