Overview

ProRak Series Workstations

Function Description:

The ProRak Series Workstations are designed to provide a stable and functional platform for audio gear and other equipment. They are assembled from a base unit, legs, and span braces, creating a robust structure. The workstations are designed to be loaded with gear, suggesting their use in studios, home offices, or other professional environments where equipment organization and accessibility are crucial. The inclusion of "Complimentary 10-32 rack screws" indicates that these workstations are likely designed to accommodate standard rack-mountable audio equipment, allowing users to integrate their gear seamlessly into the workstation's structure.

Important Technical Specifications:

While specific dimensions or weight capacities are not explicitly stated, the components listed provide insight into the workstation's construction:

  • Legs: 4 units, providing the primary vertical support.
  • Span Braces: 2 long (for the back) and 2 short (for the sides). These braces are critical for structural integrity, preventing racking and ensuring stability. Their different lengths suggest a rectangular or custom shape for the workstation.
  • Wing Nuts: 8 units, used for attaching the span braces. Wing nuts are chosen for their ease of hand-tightening, facilitating quick assembly and disassembly without tools.
  • Complimentary 10-32 Rack Screws: 8 units. The "10-32" specification refers to the screw thread size, a standard for mounting equipment in 19-inch audio racks. This confirms the workstation's compatibility with rack-mountable gear.

Usage Features:

The assembly process is designed for ease and efficiency:

  • Simple Assembly: The instructions emphasize a straightforward process, starting with the unit resting in its packaging base. This suggests that the packaging itself might serve as a temporary assembly jig, simplifying the initial steps.
  • Numbered Components: The instruction to "screw the numbered legs onto the matching numbered mounting plate" indicates that components are clearly labeled, reducing the chance of error during assembly.
  • Tool-Free Brace Attachment: The use of wing nuts for attaching span braces means that no tools are required for this crucial step, making assembly quicker and more convenient.
  • Pre-positioned Brackets: The span braces attach to "pre-positioned brackets on the legs," ensuring correct alignment and simplifying the structural setup.
  • Rack Compatibility: The inclusion of 10-32 rack screws highlights the workstation's primary feature: the ability to integrate standard rack-mountable audio equipment. This allows users to organize their preamps, effects units, interfaces, and other rack gear directly into the workstation.

Maintenance Features:

No specific maintenance features are detailed for the workstation itself, beyond the initial assembly. However, the design implies a durable structure that, once assembled, should require minimal ongoing maintenance. The use of powder coating (mentioned in the keyboard shelf section) suggests a robust finish that is resistant to wear and tear, contributing to the workstation's longevity.

Keyboard Shelf Adjustment (ProRak 61, MK61, 88, MK88)

Function Description:

These instructions detail how to adjust the height of a keyboard shelf, specifically for ProRak 61, MK61, 88, and MK88 models. This feature allows users to customize the ergonomic setup of their workstation, ensuring comfortable access to their keyboard controller or other keyboard-style instruments. The ability to relocate the slide mechanism indicates a flexible design that caters to individual user preferences and the dimensions of different keyboards.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models Covered: ProRak 61, MK61, 88, MK88. These model numbers likely refer to different sizes or configurations of workstations, possibly indicating compatibility with 61-key or 88-key keyboard controllers.
  • Fastening Mechanism: The shelf uses a slide mechanism for extension and retraction, and "male catches" secured by screws for locking the tray in place.
  • Predrilled Holes: The instruction mentions "predrilled for you to the proper diameter for effective fastening power from the screws," indicating that the adjustment points are factory-prepared, ensuring secure attachment at various heights.
  • Screw Type: While not explicitly stated for the shelf, the "10-32 thread screws" mentioned in the "Please note" section might also apply to other components or accessories, reinforcing the use of standard hardware.

Usage Features:

The keyboard shelf adjustment process is designed to be user-friendly, requiring minimal tools:

  • Tool Requirement: A Phillips screwdriver or screw gun bit is needed, indicating that the adjustment involves removing and re-securing screws.
  • Step-by-Step Adjustment: The process involves:
    1. Removing male catches (4 screws total).
    2. Fully extending the tray and releasing a plastic tab to remove it.
    3. Relocating the slide mechanism to a new desired height using predrilled holes.
    4. Reinserting the tray until it locks and reinstalling the male catches.
  • Ergonomic Customization: This feature allows users to set the keyboard shelf at an optimal height for playing, reducing strain and improving workflow.
  • Catch Mechanism: The "catch mechanism (plastic tab located in the slide)" ensures that the keyboard tray can be fully extended and removed when needed, and securely reinserted.

Maintenance Features:

  • Powder Coating Note: A critical maintenance-related note is provided regarding the "10-32 thread screws into the Rack Rails." It states: "You may feel a slight resistance for the first 2-3 turns when inserting your 10-32 thread screws into the Rack Rails. This is due to the powder coating process on the Rack Rail itself, after 2-3 turns the coating will clear from the thread & turn freely." This note is important for users to understand that initial resistance is normal and not indicative of a fault, preventing them from over-tightening or damaging the threads. It also implies that the rack rails, and likely other metal components, are powder-coated for durability and aesthetic appeal. This finish provides protection against scratches and corrosion, contributing to the long-term appearance and integrity of the workstation.

Overall, both the workstation and the keyboard shelf are designed with user convenience, structural integrity, and compatibility with standard audio equipment in mind. The instructions are clear and concise, guiding users through assembly and adjustment processes effectively.
