Operation Guide CT80
The CT80 programmable communicating
thermostat operates via a high-quality, easy-to-use
touch screen. To program or adjust your CT80,
simply touch your nger rmly to the screen. The
screen will automatically light up. The screen will
respond differently to different types of touches, so
you may want to experiment with your nger or a
stylus (not included), to see what works best for you.
The “beep” sound is heard when the CT80 senses
a valid touch of the screen.

Overview

The CT80 is a programmable communicating thermostat designed for residential HVAC systems. It features a high-quality, easy-to-use touch screen interface for programming and adjustments. The screen lights up automatically upon touch, and a "beep" sound confirms a valid touch.

Function Description:

The CT80 controls various HVAC systems, including single, two, and three-stage conventional heating (gas/oil/electric), single and two-stage compression heat pumps, 1, 2, or 3-stage auxiliary heat (electric or fossil), zoned forced air, zoned hot water (2 or 3 wire), millivolt systems (with a 24VAC adapter), one or two-stage cooling, and hybrid systems.

Usage Features:

Home Screen: This is the primary display when the unit is operating. It shows current temperature, target temperature, humidity, time, day, and power company information.

  • Mode Selection: Pressing the Power button allows selection of COOL, HEAT, AUTO, or OFF modes.
    • COOL: Operates the cooling system.
    • HEAT: Operates the heating system.
    • AUTO: The CT80's TRUE AUTO mode automatically switches between heating and cooling based on programmed temperatures, without time limitations.
    • OFF: Disables HVAC functions.
  • Temperature Adjustment: Use the +/- buttons to set the target temperature.
  • Time and Day Setting: Touch the hour, minute, or day on the screen and use the +/- buttons to adjust.
  • Save Energy Button: This feature automatically adjusts the target temperature to the lowest setting in the current program to conserve energy. Pressing it again returns to the programmed temperature.
  • Fan Control: Accessible via the FAN icon on the Home screen.
    • AUTO: Fan operates automatically.
    • CIRC: Circulates air for up to nine minutes per hour for improved air quality and efficiency.
    • FRESH: If a fresh air baffle is connected to the EX terminal, this uses outside air as the first stage of heating or cooling. Works with AUTO or ON.
    • ON: Manually turns the fan on continuously until switched back to AUTO. Available in OFF mode for ventilation.
  • HVAC Status Indicators: Orange indicates HEAT, blue indicates COOL, and green indicates the fan is active.

Menu Screen: The gateway to advanced functions.

  • Program: Allows setting daily time/temperature schedules using either an "Interview Method" (guided questions for quick setup) or a "Calendar Method" (for fine-tuning with up to seven time slots per day). Heating and cooling are programmed separately.
    • Interview Method: Guides the user through questions to set wake-up times and temperatures.
    • Calendar Method: Displays a schedule of time slots and temperatures. Users can add/delete time slots, adjust times/temperatures, and copy schedules to other days.
    • A/B Program: Stores two complete weekly programs (Prog A is default).
  • Comfort Setting: Manages temperature control precision and energy efficiency.
    • HVAC CYCLING: Sets the desired temperature variance (0.5° to 3.0°F or 0.25° to 1.5°C) before the system turns on.
    • 2nd STAGE ON AT: Adjusts settings for the next stage of heating, cooling, or auxiliary heat (2.0° to 6.0°F or 1.0° to 3.0°C). The "NEVER" option prevents auxiliary heat use except for emergency.
    • RECOVERY (ECON or FAST): In multi-stage systems, ECON uses less energy over a longer period, while FAST uses all available stages for quicker recovery but more energy.
  • Humidity Control: Manages an external humidifier or uses the air conditioner for dehumidification.
    • HUMIDIFR: Sets a minimum humidity level (20% to 90%). Can be set to run "ALWAYS" or only with "W/ HEAT" (when humidistat calls and heat is running).
    • DE-HUMID BY A/C: Sets a maximum humidity level. Can be set to run "ALWAYS" or only with "HST+TST" (when humidistat calls and thermostat calls for COOL).
    • EXTERNAL DE-HUMID: Controls an external dehumidifier connected to the DH terminal. Can run with or without the fan.
  • Consumables: Tracks run times for filters, UV bulbs, and humidifier pads, providing reminders for replacement. Users can set alert schedules (0 to 999 days).
  • Calibrate: Adjusts the displayed temperature to match another device (±1-9°F). Also allows adjustment of LCD screen contrast and toggling the night light function.
  • Lock Control: Provides three levels of control over user access.
    • UNLOCK: Full access.
    • PARTIAL: Limits temporary temperature override to ±9°F (±5°C).
    • FULL: No changes can be made.
  • Network: Configures network connections for displaying electric meter data or connecting to Home Automation networks (e.g., AMI).
    • RTM-1 Radio Modules: The CT80 has two RTM-1 radio ports for communication with other systems (e.g., Z-Wave alarm systems, power grid status, home WiFi).
    • Mating to a Network: Guides the user through connecting the CT80 to a network via a radio module.
  • Information: Accesses interactive screens and messages from network connections, displaying energy use, HVAC status, and network connectivity.
  • F/C Set: Switches the temperature display between Fahrenheit and Celsius.
  • Chirp Set: Turns the audible chirp sound on or off.

Manual Screen: Allows temporary overrides of the CT80's operation.

  • Temporary OVERRIDE: Adjusts the target temperature temporarily using the +/- buttons.
  • HOLD: Holds the set target temperature indefinitely until manually turned off.
  • HOLIDAY PROGRAM: A single program that repeats daily until turned off, superseding the weekly program.
  • VACATION: Holds a pre-set temperature until turned off.
  • FRESH AIR: Uses outside air as the first stage of heating or cooling if a baffle is connected.
  • EMER HEAT: Available for heat pumps with auxiliary heat, disabling the heat pump and using auxiliary heat as the sole source.

Maintenance Features:

  • Reset Button: Reboots the CT80 processor without affecting stored user programs.

Technical Specifications:

  • Compatibility: 100% compatible with popular residential HVAC systems.
  • Power: 24VAC.
  • Temperature Control: ±1°F accuracy, with calibration options.
  • Humidity Control: Adjustable minimum and maximum humidity levels.
  • Programming: Up to seven time slots per day for heating and cooling schedules.
  • Connectivity: Two RTM-1 radio ports for network modules (e.g., Z-Wave, WiFi).

Pre-set Program:

The CT80 comes pre-programmed with an EPA-approved energy-efficient program. Users are recommended to run this program for one week to assess its suitability before inputting a custom program. To run the EPA program, select HEAT or COOL mode, set the time and day, and press HOME.
