Overview

The Rain Deck Splash Pad Kit is a comprehensive system designed for creating interactive water play areas. This manual provides detailed installation instructions, technical specifications, and maintenance guidelines to ensure proper setup and operation of the splash pad. The kits are designed to be versatile and expandable, allowing for customization to fit various applications and needs.

Function Description:

The Rain Deck Splash Pad Kit creates a recreational water play area where water features, such as spray nozzles, are activated for enjoyment. The system operates by circulating water from a holding tank, through a pump and filter, and then to the splash pad's spray nozzles. The water then drains back into the holding tank, creating a closed-loop system. An electronic controller manages the activation of different spray zones, allowing for varied water play patterns. The system is designed for both standalone installations and tie-in applications with existing pools.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Plumbing:
    • Supply lines to nozzles: 1/2" or 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC pipe and fittings.
    • Drain pipe: 4" diameter, with a minimum slope of 1/4" per foot to the centralized drain(s) and then to the holding tank.
    • Minimum depth for supply lines: 6" below subsurface grade.
    • Minimum concrete slab thickness: 4".
    • Pressure testing: System should be pressurized between 20psi and 25psi for a minimum of 2 hours.
    • Water supply for water leveler: Dedicated 1/2" line with a shut-off valve.
  • Electrical:
    • Power supply: Must be protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI).
    • Electrical components: Must be installed at least 10 feet (3m) away from the splash pad surface.
    • All electrical connections: Must conform to national and local electrical codes and standards. A qualified, licensed electrician is required for all electrical connections.
  • Water Chemistry:
    • Recommended chlorine/bromine levels: 3-5 ppm in the holding tank.
    • UV Ozone Generator: Must be used in conjunction with chlorine or bromine for optimal water sanitation.
  • Physical Dimensions/Requirements:
    • Pump location: Minimum 10 feet (3m) away from the splash pad area and no more than 30 feet (9m) from the holding tank.
    • Splash pad surface: Designed to never accumulate more than 2 inches of water in the event the drain is plugged or restricted. Larger splash pads may require multiple drains to meet slope guidelines.
    • Nozzle placement: Minimum of 24" from the splash pad edge.
    • Holding Tank: Rain Deck 150 Gallon Burial Grade Holding Tank (for standalone kits).

Usage Features:

  • Expandable Design: All Rain Deck Splash Pad kits are designed to be completely expandable, allowing users to add more features or expand the splash pad area in the future.
  • Customizable Nozzle Layout: Users have the flexibility to locate spray nozzles in patterns that best suit their design preferences, while adhering to minimum distance requirements from the splash pad edge.
  • Electronic Controller: The Rain Deck electronic controller can accommodate up to 8 zones, with each zone (solenoid) supporting 1, 2, or 3 spray jets. This allows for varied and dynamic water play sequences.
  • Surface Material Versatility: The splash pad can be finished with various non-slip surface materials, including broom-finished concrete or rubber surfacing. The installation process accommodates different surface material thicknesses to ensure housings are flush with the finished surface.
  • Above Ground Water Features: The system supports the integration of above-ground water features, which come with specific plumbing and footing details for installation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Water Chemistry Management: Regular checking of water chemistry in the holding tank is crucial. The manual recommends maintaining 3-5 ppm of chlorine or bromine and ensuring the UV ozone generator is functioning correctly. It explicitly warns against mixing chlorine and bromine.
  • System Start-Up Procedure: A detailed start-up procedure is provided, including instructions for priming the pump and filter, bleeding air from the system, and gradually diverting water to the splash pad. This process also includes flushing the system before installing spray nozzles to clear any debris.
  • Accessibility for Servicing: The holding tank is recommended to be located on the outside perimeter of the concrete slab to be accessible for servicing.
  • Winterization/Emergency Shut-Off: A dedicated shut-off valve for the water leveler supply is recommended for ease of winterization or emergency shut-off.
  • Debris Prevention: Precautions are advised during surface material installation to prevent debris from entering the Rain Deck housings, often by taping off the openings.
  • Technical Support: Rain Deck offers free technical assistance via phone and email for installation support, troubleshooting, and any questions that may arise during the product's lifespan.
