OPERATORS MANUAL
QUICK START
If this is your first equalizer, please do yourself and
your speakers a favor and read at least the first five
pages. “An ounce of prevention...,” and all that.
The SEQ 30S is a stereo equalizer, so adjusting any
slider affects both channels simultaneously. Begin by
setting all sliders to their center detent (0 dB), and the
INPUT LEVEL to its center detent (0 dB). Try to make
more cuts than boosts. After equalizing, use the EQ
switch to compare equalized and non-equalized signal.
While EQ is switched to ACTIVE (out), adjust the
INPUT LEVEL to the same level as when EQ is
switched to BYPASS (in).
You may use either the XLR or ¼" connectors for
Inputs or Outputs. Connect only one INPUT type per
channel. The XLR and ¼" TRS inputs do not sum. You
may, however, use both types of OUTPUTS simulta-
neously if desired.
WEAR PARTS: This product contains no wear parts.

Summary

Quick Start Guide

Initial Setup: Sliders and Input Level

Set all sliders to center detent (0 dB) and INPUT LEVEL to center detent (0 dB) for initial setup.

Comparing EQ and Bypass Modes

Use the EQ switch to compare signal levels between ACTIVE and BYPASS states.

Input and Output Connector Options

Utilize either XLR or 1/4" connectors for inputs and outputs, but not both input types simultaneously.

Input Level Control and Indicators

Function of Input Level Control

Regulates overall unit level, achieving 0 dB gain at center detent with all sliders at 0 dB.

Input Level Indicators Explained

Understand the +4 dBu and OL LEDs for optimal signal level and overload prevention.

Filter Level Slide Controls

Function of Filter Slide Controls

Each slider adjusts the output level for both channels of the 30 bandpass filters.

EQ Bypass Switch Operation

Using the EQ Bypass Switch

Engaging BYPASS deactivates filters; use it to set unity gain for the INPUT LEVEL control.

Connection Information and Wiring

XLR Connector Wiring

Details XLR pin assignments for shield, positive (hot), and negative (cold) signals.

Unbalanced 1/4" Jack Wiring

Specifies wiring for unbalanced 1/4" phone jacks: TIP (signal), RING/SLEEVE (ground).

Balanced 1/4" Jack Wiring

Details balanced 1/4" jack wiring: TIP (+), RING (-), SLEEVE (shield).

Power Switch and LED Indicator

Function of Power Switch and LED

The power switch activates the unit; the yellow LED confirms the SEQ 30S is ready for operation.

Input and Output Connections

Left and Right Outputs

Use either Balanced XLR or Unbalanced 1/4" TS jacks for outputs, allowing simultaneous connection to two devices.

Cable Wiring Conventions

Follow IEC/AES/ANSI standards for XLR wiring (pin 2 hot) and 1/4" jack usage (balanced preferred).

Left and Right Inputs

Choose between balanced XLR or balanced/unbalanced 1/4" TRS jacks for inputs, using only one type.

System Installation and Operation

Impact of Installation Location

System installation affects noise, headroom, and equalizer performance, influencing overall sound quality.

Tone Contouring and Bass Boost

Tone contouring is ear-dependent; use caution with bass boosts to avoid seismic disturbances.

Using a Realtime Analyzer

A realtime analyzer is recommended for accurate system equalization and flattening speaker response.

Installation Location Guidelines

For acoustic correction, install the equalizer as one of the last pieces of gear before amplifiers.

Downstream of the Compressor

Install the equalizer after any compressor to avoid affecting its control voltage and threshold responses.

After System Gain Stages

Connect the SEQ 30S before amplifiers or crossovers, taking line gain before it to optimize noise performance.

Send/Receive Loops

The SEQ 30S works well in mixer send/receive loops; ensure mixer input trim is maximized to avoid noise.

Operating Instructions

The SEQ 30S offers precise, constant-Q equalization. Use a realtime analyzer for optimal system tuning.

Achieving Accurate Equalization

Combine analyzer use with listening to make adjustments that suit taste, music type, and audience.

Important Safety Instructions

General Safety Precautions

Read and follow all instructions, avoid water, clean with a dry cloth, and ensure proper ventilation.

Power Cord and Plug Safety

Protect the power cord from damage; ensure the polarized or grounding plug is used safely.

Apparatus Usage and Servicing

Use only specified accessories, unplug during storms, and refer servicing to qualified personnel.

Electrical Connection Requirements

Connect to a mains socket with protective earthing; consider all-pole mains switch for permanent connections.

Fire and Electric Shock Warnings

WARNING: Do not expose to rain or moisture. CAUTION: Risk of electric shock; do not open.

FCC and Canadian Compliance

This Class B digital apparatus complies with FCC Rules and Canadian ICES-003 standards.
