Overview

The document is an installation and operation manual for the BendPak 6000 Pound Capacity Low Rise Pit Lift, available in models P-6 and P-6F. This equipment is designed for automotive service, specifically for lifting passenger cars and light-duty trucks.

Function Description:

The BendPak Low Rise Pit Lift is an automotive service lift designed to raise vehicles for maintenance and repair. It is a low-rise lift, meaning it elevates vehicles to a moderate height, suitable for tasks that require access to the underside of the vehicle without needing full standing room. The lift operates hydraulically, using a power unit to actuate cylinders that raise and lower the main lift assemblies. Safety locks are integrated to secure the lift at various elevated positions, preventing accidental lowering. The P-6 model is a surface-mount pit lift, while the P-6F model is a flush-mount pit lift, indicating different installation methods relative to the floor level.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Lifting Capacity: 6000 Lbs / 2722 Kgs.
  • Maximum Lifting Capacity / Front Axle: 3000 Lbs. / 1361 Kg.
  • Maximum Lifting Capacity / Rear Axle(s): 3000 Lbs. / 1361 Kg.
  • Lifting Height (Less Lift Blocks): 26" / 660 mm.
  • Lifting Height (With Lift Blocks): 29" / 737 mm.
  • Overall Pad Length: 53" / 1346 mm.
  • Over Width: 18" / 457 mm.
  • Overall Length (P-6): 81" / 2057mm.
  • Overall Length (P-6F): 78" / 2057mm.
  • Lowered Height: 4" / 102mm.
  • Lifting Time: 35 Seconds.
  • Motor: 110-220 VAC/60HZ/ 1Ph. (Special voltage available upon request).
  • Operating Temperature Range: 41° F - 104 °F.
  • Concrete Requirement: 4" Min. Thickness of 3000 PSI concrete. New concrete must be cured for at least 28 days.
  • Recommended Pit Width (between pads): 32" - 38".

Usage Features:

  • Indoor Installation Only: The lift is designed exclusively for indoor use.
  • Hydraulic Operation: The lift is powered by a hydraulic power unit, which can be wired for either 110V or 220V (standard unit is pre-wired for 110V).
  • Safety Locks: Primary safety locks are crucial for securing the lift in an elevated position. Operators must visually confirm that all primary safety locks are engaged before entering the work area or working on/near the vehicle. The lift's suspension components are for raising and lowering only, not for holding loads.
  • Push-Button Controls: The power unit features a push-button switch to raise the lift and a lever to lower it.
  • Adjustable Lifting Pads: The manual emphasizes positioning pads underneath the vehicle's frame or other recommended lifting points to ensure secure contact.
  • Vehicle Positioning: Vehicles must be positioned on the lift with their center of gravity midway between adapters and/or centered on runways to prevent damage from overloading or misuse.
  • Trained Operators: Only trained operators should operate the lift, and non-trained personnel must be kept away from the work area.
  • Clearance Requirements: Operators must ensure hands and feet are clear of moving parts during operation and maintain a clear area around the lift. Overhead obstructions must also be considered.
  • Emergency Procedures: The manual provides troubleshooting steps for common issues like the lift not raising, not running, lowering slowly, or not staying up.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Lubrication: Weekly maintenance includes lubricating all rollers and safety lock pivot points with general-purpose oil or WD-40.
  • Component Inspection: Weekly checks include inspecting cable connections, bolts, and pins for proper mounting. Monthly maintenance involves checking safety locks for proper operating condition and visually inspecting all moving parts for excessive wear.
  • Fluid Checks: The hydraulic reservoir must be kept full with 10-WT hydraulic oil or Dexron-III automatic transmission fluid. Oil level should be checked with the lift fully lowered.
  • Part Replacement: All faulty or damaged parts must be replaced before the lift is put back into operation. Safety-related components should never be removed.
  • Cleanliness: The lift should be kept clean for better and safer performance, and control handles/buttons should be dry, clean, and free of grease and oil.
  • Electrical System Check: The power unit's voltage, phase, and amperage requirements should be checked by a certified electrician. The manual provides a table for line voltage, running amps, and circuit breaker requirements. A separate circuit for each lift is recommended.
  • Hose Installation: Hydraulic hoses should be of equal length to ensure equal pressure and lifting, preventing unequal lifting of the system.
  • Air Line Regulation: Air pressure for the air safety cylinders should be regulated to 125 PSI MAX.

The manual stresses the importance of reading and understanding all instructions, warnings, and cautions to prevent injury or death and to avoid voiding the product warranty. It also includes an "Installer / Operator Agreement" and a "Post-Installation Check-Off" list to ensure proper installation and understanding of responsibilities.
