Overview

The RATH 2400 Series Line Powered Phone is an emergency communication device designed for reliable operation in various settings, particularly where dedicated analog phone lines are available. As a product from a leading Emergency Communication Manufacturer with over 35 years of experience, it emphasizes high quality, service, and support.

Function Description:

The primary function of the RATH 2400 Series phone is to provide a dedicated emergency communication link. When activated, it dials a pre-programmed primary or secondary phone number, establishing two-way communication. A key feature is its ability to play a location message upon call answer, which is crucial for dispatchers who may not be able to identify the call's origin via Caller ID alone or require more detailed location information. The phone is line-powered, meaning it draws its operational power directly from the telephone line, eliminating the need for an external power supply. This enhances reliability, especially during power outages. The device is equipped with a keypad for programming and manual dialing, a speaker for audio output, a microphone for voice input, and an LED indicator for call status.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • TELCO Voltage: Requires 48-52VDC on an analog line.
  • Line Current: Needs at least 25mA of line current.
  • Dial Tone: Requires a valid dial tone for proper operation.
  • Line Dedication: The phone line must be dedicated to the 2400 Series phone; it cannot be shared with other devices.
  • Wiring Recommendation: For optimal performance and to reduce interference, it is recommended to use 20-22 AWG twisted shielded pair wiring, with the shield grounded at the elevator controller end only.
  • RJ11 Connection: Uses the center pins (red and green) of the RJ11 jack for the outside phone line. The phone is not polarity sensitive.

Usage Features:

  • Call Initiation: Users initiate a call by pressing the ON/OFF button on the keypad.
  • Two-Way Communication: Once a call is established, it supports clear two-way voice communication.
  • Volume Adjustment: The phone offers three volume levels (high, medium, low) for the speaker, adjustable via the blue VOL button when the phone has a dial tone. This allows users to customize audio output for clarity.
  • Location Message: Can be programmed to play a pre-recorded location message (once, twice, or on a loop) when a call is answered, providing critical information to the answering party. This feature is enabled by default but can be turned off.
  • Auto Answer: By default, all 2400 Series phones are manufactured with Auto Answer enabled, allowing the phone to answer incoming calls without manual intervention. This feature is code-required in many applications but can be disabled for home or private elevator use.
  • Talk Timer: Allows the user to set a specific duration (from 1 to 999 minutes) for two-way communication. After this time expires, the phone will hang up, and the call button must be pressed again to re-establish a connection.
  • Pause Functionality: When programming, the ON/OFF button can be used to insert pauses (each pause equals 1 second) in dialed numbers, which is useful for accessing external lines (e.g., dialing 8 or 9) before the main number.

Maintenance Features:

  • Onboard Keypad Programming: All programming, including setting primary and secondary phone numbers, location messages, talk times, and auto-answer settings, is done directly via the onboard keypad. This eliminates the need for external programming tools.
  • S15 Programming Switch: A dedicated S15 switch allows the device to be put into "ON/PROGRAM" mode for configuration, ensuring that programming changes are only made intentionally.
  • Reset Functionality: The phone can be reset to its default settings (though programmed numbers and messages are retained) by following a specific keypad sequence. This can be useful for troubleshooting or reconfiguring the device.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides detailed troubleshooting steps for common issues such as programming difficulties, inability to call out, failure to hang up, calls dropping prematurely, and low volume.
  • Technical Support: RATH offers dedicated technical support via phone during business hours (Monday-Friday, 7:30 am-4:00 pm CST) for installation and operation questions.
  • Diagnostic Indicators: The LED indicator provides visual feedback on the phone's status (solid light for calling, blinking light for received call), aiding in quick diagnostics.
  • System Activation Relay: The back of the board includes a system activation relay, which can be used for integration with other systems.

The RATH 2400 Series phone is designed for ease of installation and operation, with a focus on reliability and compliance with emergency communication standards. Its robust design and comprehensive programming options make it suitable for a wide range of emergency communication needs.
