The ReBuilder® 2407 is a prescription device designed for symptomatic relief of chronic intractable pain and for muscle stimulation. It operates by delivering electrical impulses to nerves and muscles, aiming to re-educate nerves and muscles, increase local blood circulation, prevent disuse atrophy, and provide post-surgical pain relief and stimulation.
The ReBuilder® 2407 offers three distinct therapy modes: 7.83 Hz, E.M.S. (Electric Muscle Stimulation), and TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation). The primary setting for general symptoms is 7.83 Hz, which is indicated by a steady 7.83 Hz light and a rapidly flashing light next to the ReBuilder® logo. This mode is intended to provide relief from nerve pain and strengthen muscles by increasing blood flow.
The E.M.S. mode is a muscle exercise signal used to strengthen muscles that may have atrophied from disuse, and for pain or muscle spasms in areas like shoulders, thighs, calves, and back. When selected, the E.M.S. indicator light illuminates steadily, and the ReBuilder® logo light will flicker rapidly for about 6 seconds, then go off for 6 seconds, repeating this cycle continuously. This intermittent stimulation helps in muscle re-education and prevention of disuse atrophy.
The TENS mode is specifically for spot pain relief after injury or surgery. In this mode, the TENS light illuminates, and the ReBuilder® logo light appears almost steady. It's important to note that TENS is not the primary setting for general symptoms but rather for localized pain management.
The device features two independent output channels, allowing simultaneous treatment of two different areas or the use of two pairs of pads. Each output has its own intensity control knob, enabling users to adjust the stimulation level for each channel independently. The ReBuilder® 2407 is powered by a 9-volt battery or an A/C power adapter. Using the A/C adapter bypasses the battery and provides a 33% stronger signal, ensuring consistent power levels.
To begin treatment, lead wires are connected to the input jacks, and adhesive pads are attached to the lead wires. For standard treatment, one adhesive pad is placed on the ball of each foot. The intensity is gradually increased until a strong tingling sensation and slight calf muscle activity are felt, then slightly reduced to a comfortable level where one could fall asleep. Treatments are recommended twice daily for 30 minutes, with a minimum of 6-8 hours between sessions.
For individuals new to the ReBuilder® or those with heightened sensitivity, a "Gentle Start Treatment Protocol" is suggested. This involves turning the unit on to the #1 intensity setting and slowly increasing the intensity until impulses are barely noticeable. This allows nerves to acclimate over the first 2-3 days. After this initial period, the intensity can be gradually increased to a level where impulses are felt but still allow for sleep. The sensitivity level may change as the body adjusts, which is normal, as the device works effectively even at very low settings.
The device can be used with self-adhesive pads on various body parts, including feet, hands, back, shoulders, arms, thighs, elbows, and hips. When applying pads to the skin, they should be placed approximately 4-6 inches apart. It is crucial to cleanse the skin with rubbing alcohol to remove body oil or lotion before applying the pads to ensure proper adhesion and conductivity. When using pads on other parts of the body, two pads must be used for the ReBuilder® signal to work effectively.
The frequency button allows users to switch between the 7.83 Hz, E.M.S., and TENS therapy modes. It's important to understand how to operate this button to return to the primary 7.83 Hz setting if it is accidentally changed.
The ReBuilder® unit has an automatic timer that turns off stimulation between 28 and 32 minutes. After each use, the intensity knob should be turned completely "off." If the unit has difficulty turning on, ensure the knob is off for at least one minute to allow the timer to reset.
The device comes with a pre-installed 9-volt battery, which typically lasts about 30 days with two 30-minute treatments per day at medium intensity settings. Battery life can vary depending on usage. If operating with only the A/C adapter, the 9-volt battery can be removed. If the device's light flashes but no stimulation is felt, the battery should be replaced. If the problem persists, the lead wire may need replacement.
Adhesive pads require proper care to maximize their lifespan. The skin surface should be clean and dry before application; using an alcohol swab can help. After each use, pads should be replaced onto their protective plastic sheet and stored in a cool, dry location. When pads lose their stickiness, lightly moistening the skin before application can help rejuvenate the adhesive for better contact. Worn adhesive pads should be disposed of and replaced with new ones. To replace pads, the plastic end of the lead wire and the plastic end of the adhesive pad are pulled apart with a slight twisting motion. New pads are connected by inserting the metal probe from the lead wire into the plastic connection on the new adhesive pad, ensuring it is pushed all the way in.
The manufacturer provides support for troubleshooting and treatment questions, and users are encouraged to contact them for assistance with any issues, including worsening symptoms, tired limbs, lack of sensation, or device malfunction. Warranty claims are processed directly by the manufacturer and require a receipt of purchase or a dated order to dispense from a certified physician's office.
