The Red Lion LIBC Libra Series Counters are economical and reliable devices designed for single or dual preset level requirements, available in LCD and LED display versions. These counters are capable of bi-directional counting and accept input count rates up to 2500 counts per second (CPS).
The Libra Series Counters offer two main counting actions: Reset to Zero (RTZ) and Reset to Preset (RTP). In RTZ mode, the counter resets to zero and counts up, activating outputs when preset values are reached. In RTP mode, the unit starts at the preset value and counts down, activating outputs when zero is reached. For dual preset versions, output 1 fires when preset 1 is reached, and output 2 fires when the count reaches zero. The single preset unit offers eight modes of operation, while the dual preset unit provides sixteen modes.
The devices feature solid-state current sink outputs and Form C relay outputs for each preset. A programmable timed output, adjustable from 0.01 seconds to 99.99 seconds (factory set to 0.1 seconds), is available. Front panel buttons allow for easy programming, including decimal point selection.
A key feature is the ability to lock out front panel functions via a Program Disable terminal, preventing unauthorized changes to preset or timed output values. The front panel reset button can be enabled or disabled via a rear panel DIP switch. The counters also include an on-line self-test function that checks display drivers and microprocessor hardware without losing counts or missing preset values.
Non-volatile memory (E2PROM) eliminates the need for battery backup, retaining all data necessary for system operation even when input power is removed. This memory is designed for at least 100,000 power down cycles and can retain data for up to 10 years.

Construction: Metal die-cast bezel with black, high impact plastic insert. Meets NEMA 4/IP65 for indoor use.
Weight: 1.5 lbs (0.68 kg) [LCD], 1.75 lbs (0.79 kg) [LED].
The Libra counters are designed for ease of use with a simple front panel for programming. Connections are made via removable terminal strips at the rear, accepting one #14 AWG stripped wire. DIP switches on the rear are used to program input configuration and operating modes.
The unit's on-line self-test allows for verification of display and microprocessor hardware without interrupting counting or losing preset values. This test cycles through digits, displays mode switch settings, and allows for output testing.
Decimal points can be entered into the display via front panel buttons. Preset values and timed output values can be easily changed using the front panel buttons, with changes taking effect immediately.
The sealed front panel construction (NEMA 4/IP65) ensures protection against wash-down and dust when properly installed. Mounting clips are provided for easy panel installation. The bezel should be cleaned with a soft cloth and neutral soap product; solvents should not be used.
For safety, all local codes and instructions must be observed. The unit should not be used to directly command motors, valves, or other actuators without safeguards, as this could be harmful. In high EMI environments, proper installation methods, including shielded cables, external EMI suppression devices (ferrite cores, line filters), and proper cable routing, are recommended.
