Engine/Systems
The following pages outline the basic operation of
the Regal Surf System. Read and understand the
Regal owner’s manual especially the stern drive sec-
tions as many systems overlap. Also read any surf
system marketing materials in the owner’s informa-
tion packet before attempting to operate the surf
system. Always use an on board spotter to watch
and communicate with the surf rider.
Remember the captain is responsible for his crew,
wake, and maintaining his vessel. Safety fi rst!!
The Regal Surf System utilizes Volvo forward drive
propulsion along with other integrated components
to offer boater’s wake surfi ng, wake boarding or
cruising options. The components include ballast
bags, wave shaping surf tabs, and rider preferences
for full surf control at your fi ngertips.
Introduction To Surf Components
Volvo Forward Drive Propulsion
This cutting edge technology utilizes two-forward-
facing counter-rotating propellers which actually
pull the vessel through the water rather than push
it (older technology). The forward drive delivers a
smoother and quieter ride with little vibration. Of
course coupled with surf tab technology, the drive
unit permits equally shaped wake surfi ng on either
side of the vessel. The dual propellers are placed
forward of the gear case located for optimal perfor-
mance for water sports activities. By reducing prop
ventilation, the Volvo forward drive produces better
overall fuel economy and higher top end speeds.
Also, by eliminating the exhaust passage in the prop
hub it allows more propeller blade room which ac-
centuates acceleration.
