einem eindrucksvollen
Sonderdesign eines kompletten Langstrecken-Jets
wieder
einmal
besondere Akzente.
Die 6sterreichische Fluglinie
unterzog einen
GroBraumJet 4340-300
einer kompletten Verwandlung
und macht damit weltweit fur
das
Sinnbild 6sterreichischer Kunst und Kultur -
die Wiener Philharmoniker
-
Werbung. ln
einer engen Zusammenarbeit zwischen Austrian
Airlines,
den Wiener Philharmonikern
und der Mrinze
Osterreich
wurde
das
Design des Flugzeuges
gestaltet,
wobei Besonderheiten des
welt-
beruhmten Klangkorpers
und seiner Musikinstrumente
prasentiert
werden. Neben
einer Stradivari-Violine und
einem Cello ist auch ein
,,Wiener
F-Horn" abgebildet,
wie es nur von
den
Wiener Philhar-
monikern
gespielt
wird. Daruber hinaus
sind auf den Goldmunzen
neben Streichinstrumenten
noch Harfe, Fagott
und Wiener Horn zu
sehen. Die Wiener Philharmoniker
Mtinze wird von Anlegern
und
Sammlern als schonste
Goldmunze der Welt bezeichnet und verkaufte
sich
seit der ersten Pragung 1989 mehr
als 8,7 Millionen Mal. Der
Wiener Philharmoniker
gilt
als eines der international
beliebtesten
Anlageobjekte.
Die
Sonderbemalung besteht aus Spezialfolien,
die nicht nur allen
wdhrend
des
Fluges
auftretenden Temperatur-
und
Druckunterschie-
den Stand halten,
sondern beispielsweise auch
-
im Winter
-
Eegen
De-
lcing-FlLissigkeiten bestSndig sein
mtissen.
lnsgesamt
230 Folien-Einzelteile im
AusmaB von bis zu 2,5 Meter
mal
'1,2
Meter
und einer GesamtflSche von
ca. 600 m wurden in 520
Mannstunden im Austrian Airlines
eigenen Technikbetrieb
am
Flug-
hafen
Wien aufgeklebt. Dabei waren
natLlrlich am Rumpf des Flug-
zeugs die FensteL
samtliche technische Einrichtungen
und Beschrif-
tungen sowie
die Registrierung auszusparen. Bei
einem
maxirnalen
Take-off-Weight
(Abfluggewicht)
des 4340-300 von
271.000 Kilo-
gramm
entfallen 70 kg auf das
Gesamtgewicht der Folien.
Der Airbus
4340-300 OE-LAL wird vornehmlich
auf den Langstrecken
nach Japan zum Einsatz kommen.
Am L Mdrz 2006 starten
die Wiener
Philharmoniker
aber auch mit
,,ihrem"
Flugzeug zur Amerika-Tournee
von
Wien nach New York.
Der 4340 verfiigt
iiber vier Triebwerke
vom Typ CFM565C2G, die
einen maximalen
Schub von
je
140.000 Newton liefern.
Die max.
Reichweite betr5gt
bei
voller
Zuladung rund 12.800 km. Auch
die skan-
dinavische Fluglinie SAS setzt
den 4340 seit 2001 erfolgreich auf
Langstreckenrouten
ein.

January
2006 Austrian
Airlines again drew attention to a
long-range
jet
by covering it all
over
with
an impressive special design.
The
Austrian carrier has transformed a wide body 4340-300
jet
in an
effort to advertise
the
presence
of what is arguably the strongest sin-
gle
symbol of Austrian art and
culture worldwide: the Vienna
Philharmonic
Orchestra. As
part
of a close
cooperation between
Austrian Airlines,
the Vienna
Philharmonic
and the Austria Mint, the
paintwork
of
the
aircraft has been redesigned in such a way that it
emphasises the distinctive features
of the world-famous orchestra and
its
musical instruments. In addition to a
Stradivari-violin and a cello, the
new
design depicts a
'Vienna
F-horn", as
played
exclusively by the
members
of
the Vienna Philharmonic"
Apart from stringed bowed
instruments, a harp, a bassoon and
the
'Vienna
horn" are also to be
seen
on the
gold
coins which feature on the exterior
of the aircraft.
The Vienna Philharmonic
coin has often been described
by expert col-
lectors and investors as the most
beautiful
gold
coin in the world, and
more than 8.7 million have been sold since it was first
minted in 1989.
The Vienna Philharmonic
coin is one of the most
popular
internation-
al investment items.
The
new
paintwork
consists of a special type
of
laminated
foil which
must be
capable of withstanding not only the huge fluctuations in
temperature
and
pressure
that occur during flight but also the de-
icing fluids used throughout
the winter.
A total of 230 individual
pieces
of
foil,
measuring up to 2.5 metres
times
1.2
metres, were applied to the exterior
of the aircraft
-
a total
of 600 square metres. The
work took 520 man hours, and was
carried
out by Austrian Airlines'own Technical
Services Division at its Vienna
Airport location.
Sufficient space also had to
be
left free
on the fuse-
lage,
of course,
for
the windows, the aircraft's technical
equipment,
markings and registration.
When the Airbus 4340-300 has
a
maximum
take-off weight
of
271,000 kilograms,
the total foil weight
equals
70
kilograms"
The Airbus 4,340-300
OE-LAL will be used
primarily
on
long-haul
routes to
Japan. On
1 March
2006, the Vienna Philharmonic will use
'its'aircraft to travel from Vienna to New
York to launch its American
Tour.
The 4340 has
four type CFM56-5C2G engines delivering
a
maximum
thrust of 140,000 kN each. The
maximum range with full
payload
is
about 12,800 km. The Scandinavian airline

has
also used the 4340
successfully on
long-haul
routes since 2001.
