The Sawfly U.S. Military Eyewear System is a protective eyewear solution designed for military use, featuring interchangeable lenses and a comfortable, adjustable frame. It is listed on the U.S. Army Authorized Protective Eyewear List (APEL), ensuring it meets rigorous safety standards.
The primary function of the Sawfly Military Eyewear System is to provide eye protection against high-speed particles and UV radiation. It consists of a slim-line frame, adjustable arms, and an elastic head strap, ensuring a secure and stable fit during strenuous activities. The system includes two types of polycarbonate lenses: a clear lens for night, indoor, or low-light conditions, and a smoke lens for daytime use to block glare. Both lenses offer 100% UV protection and are scratch-resistant coated. The system also accommodates an optional prescription (Rx) carrier, allowing users to integrate their corrective lenses. This carrier clips securely to the nosepiece on the inside of the eyewear system and must be fitted with high-impact polycarbonate lenses by an on-base Optometrist.
The Sawfly system is designed for ease of use and adaptability. The frame's arms are adjustable, allowing users to extend them for a comfortable fit behind the ears. For added security, a head strap can be attached by snapping its plastic ends into the holes at the end of the arms.
Lenses are easily interchangeable. To remove a lens, hold it above the nosepiece with the thumb and forefinger of one hand and the center of the frame with the other, then pull the lens and frame apart, removing the lens from the corners of the frame. Installing a lens involves inserting the corners into the frame one at a time, then firmly grasping the center of the frame and pulling it over the center of the lens until it clicks into place.
The prescription (Rx) carrier is also simple to install. It is used with an integrated Rx nosepiece. To insert the carrier, align the rectangular hole at its center with the rectangular notch on the top of the Rx nosepiece, then gently push down until it clicks into place.
Proper care and cleaning are essential to extend the life of the Sawfly Military Eyewear System. The lenses feature a scratch-resistant coating, but regular cleaning and proper storage are recommended to maintain their integrity. Lenses should be cleaned with water or an eyewear cleaning spray and dried with the included microfiber cleaning pouch.
An Anti-Fog (AF) cloth is provided to prevent fogging of both the primary lenses and any installed Rx lenses. Before using the AF cloth, any loose sand or dirt should be rinsed off with water to avoid scratching the lenses. Once clean and dry, gently wipe the AF cloth over the interior surface of the lenses, ensuring an even coating. To preserve its anti-fog performance, the AF cloth should be stored in its resealable polybag. It is reusable for over 25 applications when stored correctly.
The kit also includes a microfiber storage pouch, which doubles as a cleaning cloth, and a storage case with a belt clip to hold all components of the eyewear system. The multi-use AF cloth offers temporary fog resistance for over 25 applications.
Users must read all instructions and warnings before using the eyewear. Failure to do so may result in serious personal injury, including blindness or death. Key warnings include:
The Sawfly Military Eyewear System comes with a limited warranty covering manufacturing defects. The lenses are made from high-grade, optical quality polycarbonate, providing superior impact resistance, durability, 100% UV protection, and scratch-resistance coating; however, scratched lenses are not considered a manufacturing defect. The warranty for all components (except blank optical adaptor lenses) lasts for three years from the date of purchase for the original purchaser. Coverage terminates if the eyewear is sold or transferred. For the blank Rx Carrier, coverage terminates upon fulfillment, modification, or alteration by an Optician or anyone else. Revision will replace any defective component, with the user responsible for shipping costs and a processing fee. The warranty does not cover scratched lenses, loss, or damage from abuse, misuse, or accident, nor any damage to the Rx Carrier (or lenses) after fulfillment, modification, or alteration by an Optician. Revision makes no express or implied representations or warranties regarding merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, and damages for breach are limited to replacement of defective components. Revision Military Ltd. is not liable for indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages.
