Why won't my Ridge Power Tool run?
    • M
      Melinda NicholsJul 27, 2025
If your Ridge Power Tool won't run, several factors could be at play. Start by checking the power supply voltage to ensure it's sufficient. Also, inspect the brushes; if they're worn, replace them. Ensure you're using RIDGID thread cutting oil in adequate quantity. The machine may also fail to start due to overload from torn or out-of-round threads.

If your Ridge Power Tool is not running, make sure that the brushes are pressed firmly onto commutator by tightening the brush caps. Also, new brushes need to be seated by running the unit at idle for 15 minutes in Forward and Reverse. Another reason may be that the brushes do not touch armature, so check brushes and replace if worn.

If your Ridge Power Tool is not running, and you've checked the obvious, consider these points: Ensure the machine is running in the correct direction. If the dies are not placed in the proper order, place dies in proper die head slot. Also, if the die head is not square with the end of the pipe, push against the die head cover plate to start the thread.

If your Ridge Power Tool refuses to start, it could be due to the brushes. If there is insufficient contact between brushes and commutator, tighten the brush caps. If the brushes do not touch commutator properly, replace worn brushes and or armature. If the brushes are of different manufacture, only use RIDGID brushes.
