1. Introduction
Congratulations and thank you for purchasing
Rigel Optics Night Vision. With proper care
and use this device can function properly for
many years.
Night Vision Technology works by first
converting a light (photon) signal into an
electronic signal and then amplifying the
electronic signal and redisplaying the signal on
a phosphorescence screen. This electronic
amplification is measured as the “Gain” of the
device. Due to the high gain of these devices,
it is important not to “overdrive” the amplifier by
exposing them to bright lights. While most all
night vision devices are equipped with a safety
shutdown circuit, minor damage can occur to
the image tube each time the amplifier is
overdriven. Because these devices have very
high gain amplifiers, it is also not uncommon
for various models to have a slight noise or
“whine” from the amplifier.
