1. OVERVIEW
The Auto Tester is designed to assist Automove Technicians when troubleshoong electrical problems on a vehicle. It can be used to check current drains
directly at the vehicle fusebox without removing fuses, which greatly speeds up fault nding.
It can also measure Baery voltage, Starter cranking voltages, Alternator charging voltages, Resistance, Frequency and Duty cycle. It is also able to check circuit
connuity and check components such as diodes and LEDs. The tester is designed to be simple to use with none of the unnecessary sengs oen found on
general purpose mul-meters.
Current measurement – AMPS (A)
There are two methods provided for tesng current draw:-
Direct Current Tesng
The convenonal way of measuring current involves connecng a mul-meter in series with the circuit under test by rst removing cables. The Auto Meter is
able measure current directly from the two exposed points on the rear of a fuse (Mini, ATC or Maxi) without the need to removing it rst. This method is faster
and also allows much larger currents up to 80 amps to be tested.
In-Line Current Tesng
By inserng the current adapter, the Auto Tester can also be used like a tradional mul-meter buy measuring amps in-line with the operang circuit. Two
ranges are provided depending on the range and accuracy of measurement required. The smaller range (1mA – 1A) is useful for accurate measurement of
parasic drains on a vehicle baery.
Voltage measurement - VOLTS (V)
This mode can measure baery voltages up to 50 volts. An addional ‘trac light’ voltage indicator provides a fast indicaon of charge on 6, 12 & 24V baery
systems.
Starter Test (12V/24V vehicles)
This seng checks baery health during starng by measuring the voltage drop whilst under load of the starter motor.
Alternator Test (Normal and Smart 12V/24V alternators)
Provides a check of alternator charging voltages to ensure they fall within normal operang ranges. It can also perform a diode ripple test to check failure of
any alternator diodes.
Resistance measurement - OHMS (Ω)
Allows the resistance of electrical components such as sensors to be checked for short circuit or open circuit failure.
Frequency measurement - HERTZ (Hz)
This seng allows regular pulses in a circuit to be detected and measured. Examples of use would be fuel injectors, rotaon sensors and proximity sensors.
Duty cycle measurement - %
Duty cycle measurement helps indicate the percentage of me a device is acve and is useful to check if a sensors are being triggered correctly.
Connuity Test
When this mode is selected, you can test the connuity of the cable, circuit or common ground. The beeper will sound when the connuity is good.
Diode & LED Test
Whilst in the Connuity test mode, the condion of diodes and LEDs can also be tested.
