Function Description

The GTK03U Pump Kit Assembly integrates a pump and associated plumbing components with a Rinnai tankless water heater to facilitate hot water recirculation. This system allows for quicker delivery of hot water to fixtures by continuously circulating water through the hot water lines, reducing wait times and potentially saving water. The kit includes components for both dedicated return line plumbing and crossover recirculation plumbing configurations.

Important Technical Specifications

The kit includes several key components:

  • Hot Water Manifold (Item 1): Connects to the hot water outlet of the tankless water heater.
  • Cold Water Manifold (Item 2): Connects to the cold water inlet of the tankless water heater.
  • GTK03U pump and two unions (Item 3): The core component for circulating water. The pump's orientation is crucial, with an arrow on its side indicating the direction of flow (upwards towards the water heater).

Usage Features

The GTK03U Pump Kit enables two primary recirculation modes, configurable via dip switches on the tankless water heater's PC Board:

  • Economy Mode: Set by moving the 4th switch in the white set of switches (SW2) to ON and the 8th dip switch in SW2 to OFF (default). This mode likely optimizes energy consumption for recirculation.
  • Comfort Mode: Set by moving the 4th switch in SW2 to ON and the 8th switch in SW2 to ON. This mode likely prioritizes immediate hot water availability over energy savings.

For water heaters set between 135 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit, the 7th switch in the yellow set of switches (SW1) must be set to ON to activate the pump flow.

The Control-R™ Wi-Fi Module allows users to manage the recirculation system remotely, offering convenience and control over hot water availability.

Maintenance Features

The installation instructions highlight several important maintenance considerations:

  • Teflon Tape: Required for sealing threaded connections on the cold water inlet, hot water outlet, and cold water manifold to prevent leaks.

  • Electrical Safety: A "WARNING RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK" is prominently displayed, advising users to disconnect the supply connection before servicing the Grundfos GTK03U Pump, as its power source is from the tankless water heater.
  • Grounding: The pump's ground wire must be connected to the body of the tankless water heater for safety.

The kit is designed for integration with existing Rinnai tankless water heaters, utilizing their internal PC Board for power and control, and requiring the use of the hot and cold water isolation valves supplied with the water heater. The pipe cover helps protect the plumbing connections and provides a neat appearance.
