Maintain Distance from Side and Roof Rail Airbags
Passengers, including children, should not lean against or
sleep on the side windows or doors, even if they are in a child
restraint. The roof rail and side airbags need room to inflate and
could cause severe injury or death if passengers are too close to
the airbags. Always wear seat belts, even though you have roof
rail and side airbags.
Maintain a distance of at least 10 in (25 cm) between the
driver’s chest and the driver’s airbag, as recommended by the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Never place a rear-facing child seat in front of an active
airbag. The safest place for children 12 years old and under is
in the rear seats in a suitable child restraint.
