Accessory weight
The combined weight of factory-installed equipment (in
excess of standard items which may be replaced).
Bead
The part of the tire next to the rim, constructed of steel
wires that are wrapped or reinforced by ply cords.
Bead separation A breakdown of the bond between bead components.
Bias ply tire
A pneumatic tire constructed of ply cords laid at alternate
angles that are substantially less than 90 degrees to the
tread centerline.
Carcass
The tire structure, except the tread and sidewall rubber,
which bears the load when inflated.
Chunking The breaking away of pieces of the tread or the sidewall.
Cold tire pressure
The tire pressure when the vehicle has been parked for 3
hours or more, or driven for less than 1 mi (1.6 km).
