The Roamer SMART3 LiFePO4 Leisure Battery is a high-capacity energy storage device designed for off-grid lifestyles, particularly for use in vans, liveaboards, and DIY solar communities. It is manufactured by Roamer, a company established in 2020, with a focus on quality, customer care, and expert support.
Function Description:
The Roamer SMART3 battery serves as a reliable power source for various applications, delivering high continuous discharge currents for both DC 12V/24V appliances and AC mains voltages (230V in the UK and mainland Europe) via an inverter. It is built with LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cells, known for their safety and longevity. The battery integrates a custom high-power Battery Management System (BMS) and an active balancer to ensure optimal performance, protection, and cell health. The BMS allows for real-time monitoring of battery status, including state of charge, current, voltages, and protection warnings, through a dedicated Roamer BMS Bluetooth app.

Usage Features:
- Installation Flexibility: Can be installed in any orientation, including on its side, but must be securely fixed to prevent movement. Requires adequate air gap for cooling.
- Cable Connections: Supplied with M8 bolts, flat washers, and spring washers. Copper tube ring terminals are recommended for high currents. Connections should be tightened to 10Nm.
- Parallel and Series Connection:
- Parallel: Connects positive to positive and negative to negative to increase capacity and maximum current output (voltages remain the same). Up to 4 batteries recommended.
- Series: Connects positive of one battery to negative of another to increase voltage (capacities and maximum current outputs remain the same). Up to 2 batteries recommended.
- Important Note: All batteries in series/parallel must be fully charged and settled to within 0.05V of each other, and be of the same brand, voltage, capacity, and age.
- Inverter Pre-charging: For inverters larger than 1500VA, pre-charging is recommended to prevent high inrush current that can damage the BMS. This can be done using a high-power resistor (8Ω 50W for 12V, 16Ω 100W for 24V) for 30 seconds or a fixed current power supply.
- Charging Profiles: Battery chargers should be configured with a LiFePO4 profile, with a boost/absorption time of 1 hour, and equalization mode and temperature compensation disabled. Recommended absorption/boost voltage is 14.2V (28.4V for 24V), float is 13.5V (27.0V for 24V), and storage is 13.2V (26.4V for 24V).
- Low Temperature Charging Protection: The BMS prevents charging below 0°C to protect cells from damage, resuming only when the internal temperature rises above 5°C.
- Roamer BMS Bluetooth App: Available for iOS (10.0+) and Android (4.3+), requires Bluetooth 5.0 with BLE. Provides real-time monitoring of state of charge, current, voltages, cell temperatures, and cycle count. Displays protection warnings and error codes (e.g., SOCC, SOCD, OTC, OTD, UTC, UTD, COV, CUV, FC, FD, ASCD).
- State of Charge Monitoring: The app provides an estimated state of charge and amp-hours remaining. For accurate readings, periodic calibration (full discharge and full charge) is recommended. Voltage is also a key indicator for SoC, with specific values provided for different charge percentages.
Maintenance Features:
- High-Quality Components: Uses factory original grade A cells from top-tier manufacturers, with cell serial numbers for transparency and traceability.
- Serviceable Design: Professionally constructed with precision engineered brackets, CNC-cut epoxy insulation board, and high-capacity flexible copper busbars. The case can be opened for repairs and upgrades, but this should only be done by Roamer Technical Support to maintain warranty.
- Long-Term Storage Recommendations:
- Charge to between 13.0V and 13.25V (40% to 80% SoC).
- Completely isolate from external loads and chargers.
- If connected, set charger to a storage voltage of 13.2V.
- Store in a dry location with stable temperatures (avoid above 40°C).
- Monitor voltage regularly and top up charge if it drops below 12.8V.
- Fully cycle the battery every 6 months for extended storage.
- Note that the BMS app will not record self-discharge during storage, so voltage is the primary guide.
- Troubleshooting Guide: Provides solutions for common issues such as Bluetooth connection problems, battery not charging/discharging, incorrect amp-hour readings, and ASCD protection state.
- Warranty: A ten-year warranty covers faults and manufacturing defects. Roamer offers free repair or replacement for defects due to manufacturing processes. Shipping fees for approved warranty returns are covered by Roamer.
- Disposal and Recycling: As a responsible manufacturer, Roamer conforms with WEEE / 140001 and can arrange for the disposal and recycling of batteries.
