The instrument allows you to adjust the pitch of all
notes (in semi-tone steps) played from the keyboard.
This is convenient when, for example, you wish to
play a song using the fingering of C major even
though the song is actually in some other key.

For example, if you have a song in the key of A that
you wish to play in the key of C, you would press the
tonic for the key of A, which is the A key. Any A key will do.
