Do you have a question about the Rollover FLEXI and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Rollover Flexi is a flatbed applicator designed for efficient and high-quality application of various self-adhesive films onto flat substrates. It serves as a versatile work station, enabling users to apply printed vinyl, application tape, laminates, plotter text, and digital prints without bubbles or creases. The machine's primary structure features an illuminated glass bed and an antistatic rubber roller with pneumatic pressure, manually activated over the work surface.

Function Description:

The core function of the Rollover Flexi is to facilitate the dry application of self-adhesive media onto a wide range of flat substrates, including metal, plastic, glass, foam boards, and banners. The pneumatic roller ensures even pressure distribution, resulting in bubble-free and crease-free applications. The illuminated glass bed enhances visibility, aiding in precise media placement and operation. The machine is designed for ease of use, allowing operators to achieve optimal results with minimal training.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Connection: 230V AC 50Hz / 120V AC 60Hz, adaptable to local standards.
  • Air Pressure (Operation): Recommended 6 - 6.5 bar, filtered and moisture-free air. Maximum pressure is 8 bar.
  • Material Thickness: The machine can accommodate materials with a maximum thickness equal to the gap between the roller and tabletop (60mm). The pressure from the roller remains unaffected within this range.
  • Lifting Capacity (for transport/disassembly): Minimum 1000 kg, requiring a forklift with forks at least 7 feet long.
  • Weight: The specific weight varies by model, with an example given as 390 kg for a particular serial number.
  • Dimensions: Not explicitly stated, but the overall design suggests a large flatbed footprint.
  • Safety Features: Includes an emergency stop switch, resettable fuse, and automatic roller raising upon power failure or emergency stop activation. If pneumatic pressure lapses, the roller lowers slowly and stops approximately 3 mm above the working surface, preventing crushing hazards.

Usage Features:

  • Illuminated Glass Bed (A): Provides back-lighting for improved visibility during application.
  • Activation Switch (B): Used to lower the roller and apply pneumatic pressure.
  • Handle for Sideways Movements (C): Allows the operator to guide the roller gantry across the work surface.
  • Rubber Roller (D): An antistatic industrial-quality rubber roller designed for durability and smooth application.
  • Reversible Brackets/Spindle for Media (E): Located on the housings/machine ends, these brackets hold media rolls for easy feeding.
  • Tool Pocket (F): A convenient storage area for tools.
  • Application Process:
    1. Place the substrate centered on the bed. For thinner materials, a cutting mat can be used. For thicker materials or hollow subjects (like road signs), support pieces may be needed to ensure even pressure.
    2. Position the media precisely on the substrate.
    3. Lower the roller about a foot from one end of the substrate using the activation switch to lock the media in place.
    4. Flip the short end of the media over the roller and remove the back paper.
    5. Cut or fold the back paper, leaving 5-6 inches against the roller.
    6. Bring the roller over the substrate, applying the media. Ensure the media remains straight over the roller.
    7. Lift the roller, cut off the remaining back paper, and turn the rest of the media over the roller.
    8. Pull the remaining back paper upwards over the roller while moving the roller over the rest of the substrate, maintaining media alignment.
  • Application Tape Mounting:
    1. Attach brackets/spindle to the housing and place the application tape roll (glued side away from the roller) between the roller and spindle.
    2. Pull the tape under the roller (glued side downwards), ensuring it's tight and wrinkle-free.
    3. Lower the roller 2-3 inches from the material's end to make the tape stick.
    4. Pull the roller across the vinyl, applying the tape, then raise the roller and cut the tape.
  • Adjustable Roller Speed and Parallelism: The elevation speed of the roller can be individually adjusted on each side of the housings using adjustment screws. Upper screws (A) control lifting speed (clockwise to reduce, anti-clockwise to increase), while lower screws (B) control lowering speed (clockwise to reduce, anti-clockwise to increase). This allows for precise control over the roller's up/down motion and ensures parallel lifting/lowering.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Maintenance:
    • Inspect the rubber roller for damage or stuck objects.
    • Verify emergency stop and reset switch functionality.
    • Wipe dust and particles from the working surface to prevent damage to the roller and maintain application quality.
  • Weekly Maintenance:
    • Clean dust/dirt from the aluminum profiles on each side where the support bearings of the sliding arms run.
  • Monthly Maintenance:
    • Check the compressor's maintenance manual. It is crucial to regularly empty condensation water and use a dryer filter to prevent humidity in the pneumatic system, which can cause corrosion and damage.
  • As Needed Maintenance:
    • Inspect the rubber roller for damage.
    • Check the self-healing cutting mat for wear. If worn, replace it by contacting the local dealer or rollover@rollover.no.
  • Rubber Roller Care: To prevent "flattening" of the rubber roller during extended periods of inactivity (e.g., vacations), place a piece of wood or similar material underneath the steel roller shaft at each housing. This prevents the roller from resting directly on the glass bed. While the industrial-quality rubber is designed to return to its circular shape, prevention is recommended.
  • Access to Internal Connections: The cover at the short end of the table can be loosened (two upper screws) and flipped outwards to access internal air and electrical connections for inspection or repair.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as the roller not moving (check emergency stop, air flow, power, fuse, main switch) and uneven roller movement (check parallelism and contact a technician if needed). Dark areas in the glass bed indicate potential LED strip defects, requiring inspection of the underside of the table and contacting Rollover for replacement.

The Rollover Flexi is a robust and user-friendly machine designed to enhance productivity and quality in graphic application tasks, with clear instructions for operation and maintenance to ensure longevity and optimal performance.
