Overview

The ROPEX PEX-W5 is a current transformer designed for integration into primary controlled impulse temperature control systems. It functions as a crucial component alongside ROPEX RES or UPT temperature controllers, facilitating precise temperature regulation in various applications.

Function Description

The PEX-W5 current transformer plays a vital role in the temperature control loop by measuring the high-current cable connected to the sealing tool. This measurement, represented by the measuring line IR, is then transmitted to the temperature controller. The controller utilizes this current information to regulate the impulse temperature, ensuring accurate and stable temperature control. The device is specifically designed to be mounted on a top hat rail (TS35) in accordance with DIN EN 50022, making it suitable for electrical cabinet installations. The high-current cable passes through a central opening in the transformer, allowing for non-invasive current measurement. For scenarios where the high-current cable cannot be routed through the opening, an optional high current bar (HCB) is available.

Usage Features

The PEX-W5 is designed for straightforward integration and operation within ROPEX temperature control systems.

  • Mounting: It is mounted on a standard TS35 top hat rail. When mounting on a horizontal hat rail, the clip must face downward. For vertical hat rail mounting, end holders are necessary for mechanical fixation.
  • Clearance: When mounting a single device, a clearance of 20 mm to other devices is recommended. However, when mounting multiple current transformers, no clearance is required between them.
  • Cable Routing: The high-current cable connected to the sealing tool must be routed through the 12.8 mm diameter opening in the current transformer. This design ensures accurate current measurement.
  • Connection: The green connection terminal is specifically for the measuring line IR, which connects to the temperature controller. Users should refer to the corresponding controller documentation for detailed connection instructions and ROPEX application reports for specific individual cases.
  • Safety: Before working on electrical equipment, the power supply to the temperature control circuit must be switched off. Non-observance or improper use can jeopardize safety or cause malfunction of the control loop, which is the user's responsibility.

Maintenance Features

The PEX-W5 current transformer is designed for minimal maintenance, contributing to its reliability and ease of use.

  • No Special Maintenance: The device generally requires no special maintenance.
  • Terminal Inspection: Regular testing or retightening of the terminals is recommended to ensure secure connections.
  • Cleaning: Dust deposits on the current transformer can be removed using dry compressed air. It is important to note that dust deposits and contamination by liquids can lead to a loss of function.
  • Installation Environment: Installation in a control cabinet or terminal box with IP54 protection is recommended to protect the device from dust and moisture, thereby preventing potential loss of function.
  • Disposal: The device falls under EU Directive 2012/19/EU concerning the reduction of electrical waste. It must not be disposed of with residual waste. To ensure proper material recycling and environmentally sound disposal, the device should be placed at a designated municipal collection point, adhering to local regulations. Responsible disposal contributes to environmental protection and human health.
