This document is an owner's manual for the RotoSpa QuattroSpa, a UK-manufactured hot tub designed for relaxation and hydrotherapy. The manual provides comprehensive guidance on setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the hot tub, ensuring users can maximize its benefits and longevity.
Function Description
The RotoSpa QuattroSpa is a hot tub designed to provide a relaxing and therapeutic experience through heated, jetted water. It features a 2-speed pump that allows users to adjust the strength of the jets, offering both low and high-speed massage options. The hot tub is equipped with a heating system to maintain a desired water temperature, typically defaulting to 37°C. For enhanced relaxation, it includes a single-color LED light as standard, with an optional multi-color LED light upgrade that offers slow and fast color cycles, as well as the ability to select a specific color. A Venturi air control dial is integrated into the topside, which introduces air into the water flow through the jets, increasing pressure and enhancing the massage effect. An optional variable speed air blower is also available, providing a different type of massage with millions of small bubbles. The QuattroSpa also features an air diverter, a dial that allows users to direct the water flow to different sections of the hot tub or distribute it evenly across all jets. The hot tub is designed for easy electrical connection, being 13-amp 'plug and play' compatible, meaning it can be connected to a UK 3-pin plug.
Usage Features
Setting up the QuattroSpa involves several steps. First, the hot tub needs to be filled with water to a specified minimum level, which is half up the floating weir when pushed down. It is recommended to fill the hot tub by inserting a hosepipe into the filter housing to prevent air locks in the pipework. Once filled, the hot tub can be plugged in to begin heating. The default temperature is 37°C, adjustable using the up and down buttons on the control panel. The hot tub will automatically enter auto mode and heat to the set temperature, which typically takes 8-12 hours from cold.
Before using the hot tub, it is crucial to balance the water chemistry. This involves checking and adjusting the pH level to 7.2 to ensure the sanitizer works effectively. Users can use either test strips or a Scuba Digital Tester for this purpose. To increase pH, Ph+ granules are mixed with water and slowly added to the spa with the jets on for even distribution. To lower pH, Ph- granules are used similarly. After pH adjustment, a chlorine or non-chlorine shock is introduced to the water, especially when refilling or weekly. For chlorine users, 2 grams of chlorine shock are mixed with spa water and added, allowing jets to run for distribution. The recommended chlorine level is 2-3 ppm. For bromine users, 3 grams of non-chlorine shock are used, aiming for a bromine level of 4-6 ppm. It is advised to let the sanitizer levels drop to safe ranges before using the hot tub.
The control panel allows users to operate various functions. The pump button is pressed once for low-speed manual mode and twice for high-speed manual mode. To conserve heat, the pump should be returned to auto mode when not in use. The LED light is turned on by pressing the up button once. For multi-color lights, pressing the up button three times initiates a slow color cycle, four times for a fast cycle, and five times to turn it off. The down button allows for selecting a specific color. The Venturi air control dial is twisted to the 'on' position to introduce air and enhance jet pressure, and should be turned off when not in use to prevent increased pH levels and higher running costs. The optional air blower is activated by pressing its button once for full power (red light), twice for adjustable speed (orange light, adjustable with up/down keys), and a third time for oscillating mode (green light). A fourth press turns the blower off. The air diverter dial is used to direct water flow to different jet sections.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and safe operation of the RotoSpa QuattroSpa. Annual servicing by a qualified engineer is recommended to inspect components, pipework, and ensure optimal performance, including a deep clean of the pipework to remove biofilm.
Filters are crucial for keeping the water clear and free of debris. They should be cleaned weekly using a hosepipe to spray between the pleats, ideally with high-pressure water. It is recommended to have a spare filter to use while one is drying. Monthly, filters should be soaked in a filter cleaning solution and thoroughly rinsed. Clean filters typically last 12-18 months. Filters can be changed by lifting the floating weir out of its housing and unscrewing the filter anti-clockwise.
Maintaining proper water balance and chemical dosing is vital. Daily checks of water balance, particularly pH and sanitizer levels, are necessary before using the hot tub. High or low pH can cause skin irritation, corrosion, or scale build-up on electrical components. Showering before entering the hot tub and avoiding washing swimwear with detergents helps maintain water chemistry. Weekly 'shocking' the water with chlorine or non-chlorine shock helps kill bacteria in the pipework.
Troubleshooting common water problems:
- Murky/Cloudy Water: Can indicate a need for filter change, particles too small for the filter (requiring a flocculant), or too much 'combined chlorine' (requiring a drain and refill). High pH or insufficient sanitizer can also contribute.
- Green Water: Indicates algae build-up, which can be treated with an algaecide or prevented with an algae inhibitor.
- Smelly Water: Suggests a need to shock the water or, if prolonged, a drain and refill. It can also result from stagnant water due to lack of circulation.
- Sediment at the Bottom: Often indicates high calcium levels in hard water areas. A pre-filter attachment for the hosepipe can reduce calcium deposits.
Water changes are recommended every 4 months, or sooner if water quality deteriorates. To drain the hot tub, a hose is attached to the drain valve located at the bottom edge. The water should be directed into a manmade drain, as it is harmful to the environment and wildlife. The drain valve is opened by twisting anti-clockwise and pulling. After draining, the hot tub is refilled through the filter housing to prevent air locks. If the hot tub is to be left drained for an extended period (e.g., winter or holiday), it's important to ensure as little water as possible remains in the pipework, pump, and heater to prevent freezing damage and void warranty. A submersible pump can expedite draining. For prolonged drainage, a 'shock' treatment is recommended upon refilling. For complete winterization, professional decommissioning by RotoSpa engineers is advised.
General cleaning of the hot tub's surface can be done with specially formulated solutions from Sutton Pools and Spas to protect the shell quality.
The manual also emphasizes health and safety guidelines, including never using the hot tub under the influence of alcohol or drugs, always removing the cover completely, following chemical instructions, being cautious when entering/exiting, not putting heads underwater, avoiding water temperatures above 40°C, prohibiting children under 4, avoiding glass in or around the spa, keeping chemicals out of reach of children and dry, not adding chemicals when people are in the spa, and never mixing chemicals. It is recommended to bathe with at least one other person, and children/elderly/infirm individuals should always have adult supervision.
