Overview

This document is a user manual for the Rubine RCE-ASTER72-BL Ceramic Hob, a kitchen appliance designed for cooking.

Function Description

The Rubine RCE-ASTER72-BL Ceramic Hob is a microcomputer-controlled cooking appliance that utilizes resistance wire heating. It is designed to meet various cooking demands through multi-power selection and touch controls, offering a safe and reliable cooking experience. The hob features two cooking zones and is intended for domestic use. It is not designed to be operated by an external timer or separate remote-control system. The cooking process requires supervision, especially for short-term cooking.

Usage Features

The ceramic hob operates with touch controls, which respond to the ball of the finger rather than the tip. A beep confirms each touch. It is crucial to keep the controls clean and dry, as even a thin film of water can hinder operation.

Starting and Finishing Cooking:

  1. After powering on, the hob enters standby mode (buzzer beeps once, indicators light up for 1 second then go out).
  2. Touch the ON/OFF control; all indicators will show "-".
  3. Place a suitable pan on the desired cooking zone, ensuring the pan's bottom and the cooking zone surface are clean and dry.
  4. Select a heat setting by touching the "-" or "+" control. If no setting is chosen within 1 minute, the hob automatically switches off. Heat settings can be modified at any time during cooking by holding down the buttons to adjust the value up or down.
  5. To turn off a cooking zone, scroll its setting down to "0".
  6. To turn off the entire cooktop, touch the ON/OFF control.

Cookware Selection:

  • Use cookware with smooth, flat bases that sit flush against the glass and are the same size as the cooking zone.
  • Avoid cookware with jagged edges or curved bases.
  • Always lift pans off the ceramic hob; do not slide them to prevent scratching the glass.

Locking the Controls:

  • The controls can be locked to prevent unintended use, such as accidental activation by children.
  • To lock, touch the lock control; the timer indicator will display "Loc".
  • To unlock, ensure the hob is on, then touch and hold the lock control for a while. When locked, all controls except ON/OFF are disabled.

Timer Control:

  • The hob has a timer function with a maximum setting of 2 hours and 59 minutes.
  • To set the timer for a cooking zone, touch the timer control, then adjust the time using the "-" or "+" controls. The minute minder indicator will flash.
  • To adjust the timer for the whole cooktop, touch the timer control again, and the second indicator will flash.
  • When the timer is set, it will count down immediately. The display will show the remaining time, and the timer indicator will flash for 5 seconds.
  • The buzzer will beep for 30 seconds, and the timer indicator will show "H" when the setting time is finished.

Switch Control:

  • This function allows for timing and power display.

Over-Temperature Protection:

  • A temperature sensor monitors the hob's internal temperature. If an excessive temperature is detected, the hob will automatically stop operation.

Residual Heat Warning:

  • After operating for some time, the hob will have residual heat. The letter "H" will appear to warn users to keep away from the hot surface. This also serves as an energy-saving function, allowing further heating of pans on the still-hot hotplate.

Default Working Times:

  • The hob has an automatic shutdown feature if a cooking zone is left on unintentionally. Default shutdown times vary by power level:
    • Power levels 1-3: 8 hours
    • Power levels 4-6: 4 hours
    • Power levels 7-9: 2 hours

Cooking Tips:

  • Reduce temperature settings once food boils.
  • Using a lid reduces cooking times and saves energy.
  • Minimize liquid or fat to reduce cooking times.
  • Start cooking on a high setting and reduce it once the food is heated.
  • Simmering: Occurs below boiling point (around 85°C) for soups, stews, egg-based, and flour-thickened sauces.
  • Searing Steak: Preheat a heavy-based frying pan, brush steak with oil, add a small amount of oil to the pan, and cook. Turn only once. Cooking time depends on thickness (2-8 minutes per side). Rest steak on a warm plate before serving.
  • Stir-frying: Use a ceramic-compatible flat-based wok or large frying pan. Prepare ingredients beforehand. Preheat pan briefly, add oil. Cook meat first, set aside. Stir-fry vegetables, then return meat and add sauce. Stir gently and serve immediately.

Heat Settings Guidelines:

  • 1-2: Delicate warming, melting chocolate/butter, gentle simmering, slow warming.
  • 3-4: Reheating, rapid simmering, cooking rice.
  • 5-6: Pancakes, sautéing.
  • 7-8: Cooking pasta, stir-frying.
  • 9: Searing, bringing soup to boil, boiling water.

Maintenance Features

Care and Cleaning:

  • Everyday Soiling (fingerprints, marks, food/non-sugary spills):
    1. Switch off the cooktop.
    2. Apply a cooktop cleaner while the glass is still warm (but not hot).
    3. Rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
    4. Switch the cooktop back on.
    • Important: The "hot surface" indication will not be visible when power is off, but the cooking zone may still be hot. Use extreme care. Avoid heavy-duty scourers, some nylon scourers, and harsh/abrasive cleaning agents as they may scratch the glass. Always check cleaner labels for suitability. Never leave cleaning residue on the cooktop to prevent staining.
  • Boilovers, Melts, Hot Sugary Spills:
    1. Remove immediately with a fish slice, palette knife, or razor blade scraper suitable for ceramic glass cooktops. Be aware of hot cooking zone surfaces.
    2. Switch off the cooktop at the wall.
    3. Hold the blade or utensil at a 30° angle and scrape the soiling to a cool area of the cooktop.
    4. Clean the soiling with a dishcloth or paper towel.
    5. Follow steps for "Everyday soiling on glass" to clean.
    • Important: Remove stains as soon as possible; if left to cool, they may be difficult to remove or permanently damage the glass. The scraper blade is razor-sharp when retracted; use extreme care and store safely out of reach of children.
  • Spillovers on Touch Controls:
    1. Switch off the cooktop.
    2. Soak up the spill.
    3. Wipe the touch control area with a clean damp sponge or cloth.
    4. Wipe the area completely dry with a paper towel.
    5. Switch the cooktop back on.
    • Important: Liquid on controls can cause beeping, automatic shutdown, or malfunction. Ensure the area is dry before turning the cooktop back on.

Troubleshooting:

  • Cooktop cannot be turned on: Check power supply, ensure it's switched on, and check for power outages. If issues persist, call a qualified technician.
  • Touch controls unresponsive: Unlock the controls.
  • Touch controls difficult to operate: Ensure the control area is dry and use the ball of your finger.
  • Glass being scratched: Use cookware with flat, smooth bases. Avoid unsuitable, abrasive scourers or cleaning products.

Installation:

  • Installation must be performed by qualified personnel or technicians.
  • The ceramic hob should not be mounted to cooling equipment, dishwashers, or rotary dryers.
  • Ensure proper heat radiation for reliability.
  • The wall and heating zone above the work surface must withstand heat.
  • Sandwich layer and adhesive must be heat resistant.
  • A steam cleaner is not to be used for cleaning.
  • The hob must be well ventilated, and air inlet/outlet must not be blocked.
  • There must be ventilation holes around the outside of the hob, which must not be blocked.
  • The glue joining plastic or wooden material to the furniture must withstand temperatures up to 150°C to avoid damage.
  • The rear wall, adjacent, and surrounding surfaces must withstand 90°C.

Electrical Connection:

  • Disconnect from mains electricity before any work or maintenance.
  • A good earth wiring system is essential.
  • Alterations to domestic wiring must be done by a qualified electrician.
  • The power supply should be connected in compliance with relevant standards or a single-pole circuit breaker.
  • If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by an after-sales technician.
  • If connected directly to the mains, an omnipolar circuit breaker with a minimum 3mm gap between contacts must be installed.
  • The installer must ensure correct electrical connection and compliance with safety regulations.
  • The cable must not be bent or compressed and should be regularly checked and replaced by a qualified person.
  • The bottom surface and power cord of the hob must not be accessible after installation.

Disposal:

  • The appliance is labeled according to European directive 2012/19/EU for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
  • It should not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste but taken to a collection point for recycling electrical and electronic goods.
  • Contact local council, waste disposal service, or the shop of purchase for detailed information on treatment, recovery, and recycling.
