As with all rustic and log furniture, some cracking (or
checking) may develop during the log drying process.
Cracking occurs mainly on the your furniture. Some
cracking is to be expected and it is a natural characteristic
of all log furniture.
Cracking usually occurs from the center of the log, cracking
outward in one direction as the wood releases moisture.
The degree of cracking will vary from log to log. Some
cracks will be wider than others, depending upon the
diameter of the log. Typically, logs that are larger in
diameter will have larger cracks. This natural process adds
to the unique rustic appeal of your log furniture.

Overview

This document describes the Rush Creek Creations Rod Rack, item number 38-3017, a storage solution designed for fishing rods. The manual provides detailed information on the product's characteristics, assembly, care, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Rush Creek Creations Rod Rack is a versatile storage system for fishing rods, capable of holding up to 11 rods. It offers multiple mounting options: horizontal, vertical, and ceiling mount, allowing users to optimize their storage space based on their needs and available area. The rack's design incorporates rustic and log furniture aesthetics, making it not only functional but also an attractive addition to a room.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Item Number: 38-3017
  • Capacity: Holds 11 rods.
  • Mounting Options: Horizontal, Vertical, Ceiling.
  • Construction Material: Primarily wood, consistent with rustic and log furniture styles.
  • Parts List:
    • Part 1: Main rack body (x1)
    • Part 2: Main rack body (x1)
    • Part 3: Mounting washers/spacers (x6)
    • Part 4: Screws (x4)
    • Part 5: Screws (x4)
  • Drill Bit Size for Pilot Holes: 16" (This likely refers to the depth of the pilot hole or the length of the drill bit, not the diameter. Given the context of drilling into a wall, it's more probable that a 1/16" or similar small diameter bit is intended for pilot holes, and "16 inches" might be a typo or refer to a measurement related to the overall installation span, but the diagram shows a drill bit next to "16"" which is ambiguous.)

Usage Features

The rod rack is designed for flexible installation to suit various spaces:

  • Horizontal Mount: Ideal for displaying rods along a wall. The assembly involves attaching two main rack bodies (Parts 1 and 2) to the wall using screws (Parts 4 and 5) and washers/spacers (Part 3). The rods are then placed horizontally into the designated slots.
  • Vertical Mount: Suitable for narrower wall spaces, allowing rods to be stored upright. This configuration also uses the two main rack bodies, mounted vertically to the wall.
  • Ceiling Mount: An excellent option for maximizing floor and wall space, especially in garages or storage rooms. The rack bodies are attached to the ceiling, holding the rods parallel to the ceiling.

The assembly process involves:

  1. Drilling Pilot Holes: Using a drill, pilot holes are made in the desired mounting surface (wall or ceiling). The diagram indicates a measurement of "16"" in relation to drilling, which might refer to the spacing between mounting points or a specific drill bit length/depth.
  2. Attaching Rack Bodies: The main rack bodies are secured to the surface using the provided screws (Parts 4 and 5) and washers/spacers (Part 3). The diagrams show specific screw placements for each mounting type.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides crucial information for maintaining the log furniture, ensuring its longevity and appearance:

  • Cracking (Checking): It is important to note that cracking or "checking" is a natural characteristic of rustic and log furniture as the wood dries. This process typically occurs from the center of the log outwards as moisture is released. The degree of cracking varies, with larger diameter logs often exhibiting wider cracks. This is considered part of the unique rustic appeal.
  • Cleaning:
    • Apply lemon oil with a soft cotton cloth.
    • DO NOT use products with silicones, as they can damage the finish.
    • NEVER let the wood come into contact with any type of paint remover.
  • Connections:
    • Temperature and humidity changes can cause the wood to dry out, potentially loosening bolts.
    • Periodically check the bolts to ensure they remain tight.
    • DO NOT place the wood piece directly against hot radiators or other sources of heat, as this can cause the wood to dry and crack.

The manual emphasizes keeping the instruction manual for future reference, highlighting the importance of following these guidelines for proper assembly and care.
