Do you have a question about the Russell Hobbs 20460 and is the answer not in the manual?
Instructions for removing limescale buildup to maintain performance and reduce noise, recommended monthly.
This document describes a kettle, focusing on its function, usage, and maintenance.
The kettle is designed for heating water for household and similar applications. It can be used in various settings such as staff kitchen areas in shops, offices, and other working environments; by clients in hotels, motels, and other residential type environments; bed and breakfast type environments; and farmhouses. The appliance features a heating element that boils water, and a suppressor designed to reduce the noise made by the boiling water. A boil-dry cut-out mechanism is included to prevent damage if the kettle is operated without water, switching the kettle off automatically.
Before first use, the kettle should be filled to the maximum level, boiled, and the water discarded. This process should be repeated twice to remove any manufacturing dust.
To use the kettle, first place the stand on a stable, level surface and wind any excess cable beneath it. Plug the stand into a wall socket. Then, place the kettle onto the stand.
To fill the kettle, remove the lid. Fill with at least one cup of water, but not above the maximum fill line. If specific quantities are desired, the kettle has internal markings for 1, 2, or 3 cups. After filling, refit the lid.
To start heating, move the switch to the 'I' position. A light will illuminate, indicating that the kettle has begun to heat. The kettle will automatically switch off once the water boils. To manually switch off the kettle, move the switch to the 'O' position, or simply lift the kettle off its stand.
When the kettle is lifted from its stand, it is normal to observe moisture on the stand. This is steam that escapes via vents under the kettle, used to switch off the appliance.
The kettle can be used by children aged 8 years and above, and by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, provided they have been supervised or instructed and understand the associated hazards. Children should not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance should not be performed by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised. The appliance and its cable should be kept out of reach of children under 8 years.
Parts of the appliance will become hot during use. Overfilling the kettle may cause boiling water to spit. The kettle should only be used with the supplied stand. If the cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified personnel to avoid hazards. Spillage on the stand/connector should be avoided. The surface of the heating element will retain residual heat after use. Misuse of the appliance may result in potential injury, electric shock, or other hazards.
The kettle should not be used near bathtubs, showers, basins, or other vessels containing water. It should not be used for any purpose other than heating water. The appliance should not be operated if it is damaged or malfunctions.
For cleaning, first unplug the stand and allow the kettle to cool. Wipe all external surfaces with a clean, damp cloth. It is important to keep the connectors dry.
To clean the filter, open the lid. Push the hook on top of the filter down, then lift the filter out of the kettle. Rinse the filter under a running tap while brushing it with a soft brush. After cleaning, lower the filter back into the kettle, ensuring the bottom hook engages in the bottom of the spout. Press the top of the filter towards the kettle to lock the hook in place, then close the lid.
Regular descaling is crucial, ideally at least monthly. Scale buildup can impair the suppressor's ability to reduce noise, making the kettle noisier. A proprietary descaler should be used, following the instructions provided on its packaging. Products returned under guarantee with faults attributed to scale will incur a repair charge.
If the kettle is operated without water, the boil-dry cut-out will activate, switching the kettle off. This mechanism helps to prolong the life of the heating element. To reset the cut-out, remove the kettle from its stand and place it on a work surface until it cools down.
To prevent environmental and health problems caused by hazardous substances, appliances and rechargeable/non-rechargeable batteries marked with specific symbols must not be disposed of with unsorted municipal waste. Electrical and electronic products, and where applicable, rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries, should always be disposed of at an appropriate official recycling/collection point.
