Overview

The Russell Hobbs Black 12kg Ice Maker is an appliance designed to produce ice cubes for domestic use. This ice maker is built with a focus on safety and reliability, ensuring a consistent performance for its users. Before operating the appliance for the first time, it is crucial to read the instruction manual carefully to understand its features and ensure proper usage and maintenance.

Function Description

The primary function of this device is to generate ice cubes. It operates by drawing water from a reservoir, freezing it, and then releasing the formed ice into an ice basket. The ice maker is equipped with a control panel that allows users to manage its operation. This includes starting and stopping the appliance, selecting the desired ice cube size, and receiving notifications regarding water levels and ice storage capacity.

The ice maker is designed to produce 9 ice cubes per cycle, with each cycle taking approximately 7 minutes. This allows for a continuous supply of ice, making it suitable for various household needs. The appliance is intended for use with spring water, as pure water is not recommended for optimal performance.

Usage Features

Operating the Russell Hobbs Ice Maker involves a few straightforward steps. First, the top cover needs to be opened, and water should be added to the reservoir. It is important to ensure that the water level does not exceed the maximum fill line. If too much water is added, the excess can be drained using the bottom water drain plug.

Once water is added, the machine should be connected to a main power socket. Pressing the ON/OFF button will initiate the standby mode. From there, users can select their preferred ice cube size. The default setting is for large ice cubes, but a smaller size can be chosen, especially when the ambient temperature is below 15°C. For ambient temperatures higher than 30°C, large ice cubes are recommended. After selecting the size, pressing the start button will begin the ice-making process.

The control panel provides visual indicators for various operational states. The "ICE" indicator blinks in standby mode and lights up solidly when the machine is actively making ice. The "ICE FULL" indicator illuminates when the ice basket has reached its maximum storage capacity, at which point the machine will temporarily stop working. The "ADD WATER" indicator turns red when the water reservoir is low, prompting the user to refill it and restart the machine by pressing the POWER button.

For optimal performance and to ensure proper ventilation, the ice maker should be placed upright on a horizontal plane. It is essential to maintain at least 150mm of clear space on the top, sides, and back of the machine. The appliance should not be placed near heat sources such as roast ovens or radiators, as this can affect its efficiency.

When the ice basket is full, it is important to remove the ice promptly to prevent overflow and allow the machine to continue its operation. The appliance is designed for domestic use only and should not be used outdoors. It is also crucial to avoid inclining the machine over a 45°C angle.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to ensure the longevity and hygienic operation of the Russell Hobbs Ice Maker. The inner liner, ice collecting tray, water box, ice shovel, and evaporator should be cleaned frequently. Before cleaning, the unit must be unplugged, and all ice cubes should be removed. A diluted solution of water and vinegar can be used to clean both the inside and outside surfaces of the ice maker. It is important not to spray the ice maker with harsh chemicals or diluted agents such as acids, gasoline, or oil. After cleaning, all components should be thoroughly rinsed before restarting the machine.

To maintain the cleanliness of the ice, it is recommended to change the water in the reservoir at least once a day. If the appliance will not be used for an extended period, the water should be drained, and the unit should be cleaned.

The ventilation openings of the appliance enclosure or built-in structure must be kept clear of obstructions. Mechanical devices or other means should not be used to accelerate the defrosting process, unless specifically recommended by the manufacturer.

In cases where the compressor experiences a delay due to low water, a full ice basket, or a power interruption, it will automatically delay its start-up for 3 minutes after being restarted. It is important to always use fresh water when starting ice production, whether it's the initial installation or after a long period of inactivity.

When storing the appliance, it should be unplugged from the wall outlet, and all parts should be cleaned and dried as instructed. The unit should be stored in its original box or in a clean, dry place. It is crucial never to store the appliance while it is still wet or dirty. The power cord should not be wrapped around the appliance, and the thermostat control/probe should not be inserted in the unit during storage. Instead, it should be unplugged and stored in a safe place to prevent damage.

The appliance is designed for household and similar applications, including staff kitchen areas in shops, offices, and other working environments; farmhouses; hotels, motels, and other residential-type environments; bed and breakfast type environments; and catering and similar non-retail applications. It is important to note that the refrigerant and insulation blowing gas used in this appliance are flammable. Therefore, when disposing of the appliance, it should only be done at an authorized waste disposal center, and it should not be exposed to flame. Care must be taken to avoid damaging the refrigerant tubing during handling, moving, and use to prevent leaks. The ice maker should be installed in accordance with the Safety Standard for Refrigeration Systems, ASHRAE 15, and should not be installed in corridors or hallways of public buildings.
