Overview

The Rx Clear® Niagara Rapids™ Submersible Cover Pump is designed for residential swimming pools and sumps, offering a reliable solution for water removal. This pump is specifically engineered to handle water from pool covers and sumps, ensuring crystal clear water.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Rx Clear® Niagara Rapids™ pump is to remove unwanted water from residential swimming pools and sumps. It operates by submerging into the water and pumping it away through a connected discharge hose. The pump is equipped with an automatic reset thermal protector, which safeguards the motor by cutting off power if the temperature rises unduly. Once the motor cools sufficiently, the switch resets automatically, and the motor restarts. This feature prevents damage to the motor from overheating. The pump is designed to pump down to approximately ¼" (6mm) of water, but it should not be allowed to run without at least 5-½" of water to prevent damage to the shaft seal, which relies on water for lubrication. It is crucial not to use this pump for applications involving salt water or brine, as this will void the warranty. It is also not designed as a waterfall or fountain pump.

Usage Features:

  • Multi-connection Adapter: Allows for versatile connection options for discharge hoses.
  • Garden Hose Adapter: Facilitates easy connection to standard garden hoses for water discharge.
  • Carrying Handle: Provides convenience for transporting the pump.
  • Grounding: The pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and a grounding-type attachment plug, ensuring electrical safety. It must be connected to a properly grounded receptacle. If a 2-prong wall receptacle is encountered, it must be replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong receptacle in accordance with state and local codes.
  • Placement: The pump should be placed on a desirable flat area for optimal operation.
  • Safety Precautions: Users should wear safety glasses, keep the work area clean and well-lit, and keep visitors at a safe distance. The pump should not be handled with wet hands or when standing on wet or damp surfaces. The power cord should not be buried or used to lift the pump.
  • Water Type: This pump is evaluated for use with water only and should not be used to pump corrosive liquids, as this could damage the enclosure and cause an electrical short.
  • Dry Running: Avoid running the pump dry, as this can damage the integrity of the enclosures and cause an electrical short.
  • Icy Conditions: Operation in icy conditions can cause unnecessary wear on the pump. If these conditions exist, cease operation and remove the pump from the pool cover.

Maintenance Features:

  • Easy Maintenance: The design allows for straightforward maintenance.
  • Periodic Inspection: Users should periodically inspect the product and system components, keeping them free of debris and foreign objects. Routine maintenance is required to ensure optimal performance.
  • Cord Care: Protect the electrical cord from sharp objects, hot surfaces, oil, and chemicals. Avoid kinking the cord. Damaged or worn cords should be replaced or repaired immediately.
  • Impeller Cleaning: If the pump operates but delivers little or no water, or if it starts and stops too often, the impeller may be clogged. The pump should be removed, and the impeller cleaned.
  • Intake Screen Cleaning: A restricted intake screen can also lead to reduced water delivery. The intake screen should be cleaned regularly.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting chart to help diagnose and resolve common issues such as the pump not starting, starting and stopping too often, or operating with little to no water delivery. This chart provides causes and corrective actions for various problems.
  • Pre-Service Disconnection: Always disconnect power before servicing the pump to prevent electric shock. Release all pressure within the system and drain all water before servicing any component.
  • Hose Inspection: Check hoses for weak or worn conditions before each use, ensuring all connections are secure.
