Do you have a question about the Ryobi PCL850 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Ryobi PCL850 is an 18 Volt Hybrid 12-inch Misting Air Cannon, designed for general ventilation in most household spaces. This versatile product can operate on either an 18V ONE+™ battery pack (DC mode) or through an extension cord connected to a 120V, AC 60 Hz power source (AC mode). It features a 2-speed fan (LOW/HIGH) and a misting function, allowing it to be used as a fan only or as a misting fan with a garden hose.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: 18 Volt DC (battery) or 120 V, AC only, 60 Hz (corded)
  • Fan Speeds: 2-Speed (LOW/HIGH)
  • Fan Head Adjustment: -15° to 45°
  • Misting Angle Adjustment: -15° to 45°
  • Cord Length (AWG):
    • 25': 16 (for 0-12.0 Amperes), 14 (for 12.1-16.0 Amperes)
    • 50': 16 (for 0-7.0 Amperes), 14 (for 7.1-12.0 Amperes), 12 (for 12.1-16.0 Amperes)
    • 100': 16 (for 0-5.0 Amperes), 14 (for 5.1-7.0 Amperes), 12 (for 7.1-12.0 Amperes), 10 (for 12.1-16.0 Amperes)
    • Note: AWG = American Wire Gauge. Used on 12 gauge - 20 amp circuit.

Usage Features:

  • Hybrid Power: The PCL850 can be powered by an 18V ONE+™ battery pack for cordless operation or by an extension cord for continuous use. Always ensure the speed switch is in the OFF (O) position when installing or removing the battery pack or power cord.
  • Battery Installation/Removal: To install the battery pack, open the battery compartment door, insert the pack until the latches snap into place, and close the door. To remove, depress the latches. A padlock (not included) can be used to secure the battery cover.
  • Corded Operation: For AC power, connect a GFCI-rated extension cord (not included) to the AC receptacle on the product and then to a power source. Ensure all connections are secure before operation.
  • Fan Control: The fan features a LOW/OFF/HIGH switch located on the front of the base. Press (I) for LOW speed, (II) for HIGH speed, and (O) to turn the fan OFF.
  • Adjustable Head: The fan head can be adjusted from -15° to 45° by loosening the adjustment knobs on each side, selecting the desired position, and tightening the knobs. Adjusting without loosening the knobs may damage the fan.
  • Misting Function: When using the misting function, connect a garden hose (not included) to the garden hose connector on the fan. Ensure the water faucet is completely off before connecting the hose, then hand tighten. Install the battery pack and close the compartment. Turn the garden hose faucet on completely to fill the hose with water, then rotate the water control valve on the garden hose connector to the ON position. The fan switch can then be set to LOW (I) or HIGH (II).
  • Fan Only Mode: The product can be used as a fan only without connecting to a water source. Always disconnect the garden hose and store the misting tube in its designated area when not using the misting function.
  • Keyhole Mount: The fan can be hung using the keyhole hanger located on the frame cross member. Use a 6 mm minimum screw size, securely fastened into a stud, with no more than 5/8 inch exposed. Ensure the fan is securely mounted.
  • Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI): The unit is recommended for use with a GFCI to protect against ground fault currents. GFCI plugs do not protect against short circuits, overloads, or shocks. The GFCI can be tested monthly by pressing the TEST button (LED light goes out) and restored by pressing the RESET button (LED light illuminates).

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning: Avoid using solvents on plastic parts. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, and grease.
  • Post-Use Cleaning (Misting Fan): With the battery pack removed, thoroughly clean and dry all parts of the misting fan and intake tube after each use to prevent bacteria or mold formation.
  • Nozzle Maintenance: Irregular mist patterns or leakage may indicate a clogged or dirty nozzle. To clean:
    1. Ensure both the power switch and pump switch are in the OFF (O) position.
    2. Remove the battery pack.
    3. Remove the brass nozzles from each side of the fan.
    4. Soak nozzles in nozzle cleaner (not included) to loosen foreign materials.
    5. Flush debris out of the nozzles by back flushing with a garden hose (running water from the outside to the inside).
    6. Reconnect the nozzles.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Leak at nozzle or threaded hole: Possible cause is improperly installed, clogged, or dirty nozzles. Solution: Reinstall and tighten nozzles securely, or clean nozzles.
    • Fan will not start: Possible cause is a defective or fully discharged battery. Solution: Charge battery or contact customer service.

Safety Instructions:

  • Always read and understand the operator's manual before use.
  • Close supervision is necessary when used near children; do not allow children to operate.
  • Use only clean, cold water for misting. Do not spray pesticides, liquid fertilizers, chemicals, or any liquids other than clean water.
  • Ensure hoses and mist tubes are located to prevent tripping, damage, or contact with sharp edges or moving parts.
  • Do not direct mist or water toward electrical wiring or devices.
  • Store indoors.
  • Use only manufacturer-recommended batteries and chargers.
  • Do not defeat the safety purpose of polarized or grounding-type plugs.
  • Protect extension cords from being walked on or pinched.
  • Unplug during lightning storms or when not in use.
  • Check extension cords for damage before each use.
  • Dress properly; keep loose clothing, jewelry, and long hair away from moving parts.
  • Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting power or battery.
  • Keep proper footing and balance.
  • Do not use on a ladder or unstable support.
  • Constantly be aware of cord location.
  • Do not expose battery packs or tools to fire or excessive temperatures.
  • Keep the product dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
  • Do not charge battery products in damp or wet locations.
  • Do not incinerate the misting fan.
  • Do not use with solid-state speed control devices.
  • Not for use in kitchens.
  • For general ventilating use only; not for exhausting hazardous or explosive materials.
  • Ensure battery compartment cover is completely closed to prevent water contact.
  • Service must be performed by qualified repair personnel using identical replacement parts.
