  If the engine won't start, it could be due to no spark, no fuel, or a flooded engine. Try cleaning or replacing the spark plug and resetting the spark plug gap. Push the primer bulb until it's full of fuel; if it doesn't fill, the primary fuel delivery system might be blocked, and you should contact a service dealer. If the bulb fills, the engine may be flooded. Set the start lever to the START position, squeeze the trigger, and repeatedly pull the rope until the engine starts. Note that depending on how flooded the engine is, it might take many pulls.

  If the engine doesn't reach full speed and emits excessive smoke, the air filter screen or spark arrestor screen may be dirty, or the spark plug may be fouled. Try cleaning the air filter screen. You can also clean or replace the spark plug and reset the spark plug gap. For the spark arrestor screen, contact a servicing dealer.

  If the line won't advance, it could be welded to itself, there might not be enough line on the spool, the line could be worn too short, tangled, or the engine speed may be too slow. Try replacing the line, installing more line, pulling the lines while pressing down on and releasing the spool retainer, or removing the line from the spool and rewinding it. Also, try advancing the line at full throttle.

  If the engine starts, runs, and accelerates but will not idle, the idle speed screw on the carburetor likely needs adjustment. Turn the idle speed screw clockwise to increase the idle speed.
