SafeTac VRD® VRDT5 VRD TESTER KIT TEST PEAK OCV /OCV VRD
OPERATE TIME / VRD OPERATE RESISTANCE
Results are displayed on high brightness display for easy recording.
Simple to operate supplied in case with SafeTac VRD Peak Level tester to ensure all standards requirements are
tested.
Visual high brightness indicators to provide a secondary PASS / FAIL indication.
Operation.
Current N.A.T.A. Calibration certificate included.
Test Welding Machine Peak OCV with Peak OCV tester before below test to ensure compliance
To Australian Standards Peak output OCV 35 VDC or less
Ensure Welding Plant is turned off before any connections or disconnection is made.
1. Connect Earth clamp & Electrode holder to VRDT5 tester Polarity is not important.
2. Connect Input leads to Welding Machine Polarity is not important
3. Start or turn on welding machine & set to MMA or stick position set current to approximately 90 Amps.
4. Ensure 200 Ohm switch is in off position VRDT5 should turn on automatically if not press green power
button to turn on.
5. Ensure screen is in OCV weld to test mode ,Weld then when siren beeps then stop welding OCV will be
indicated on screen & green LED should be on if red led is on then VRD OCV test has failed.
6. If test was OK press program button to change to Time test mode plus turn 200 OHM switch to the on
position LED should be green if it changes to red when the switch is turned on then the VRD is operating
at above 200 Ohms & needs attention.
7. If LED is green then weld until beeper sounds then stop welders VRD turn on time should be displayed
on the screen ,Green led should be on if red is on & flashing then VRD has locked on & needs attention.
8. Turn off welder & disconnect leads VRD tester should turn off after approximately 3 minutes.

VRDT5 Tester Operation

Connect Leads

Connect Earth clamp & electrode holder to VRDT5 tester; polarity is not important.

Connect Input Leads to Welder

Connect input leads from the welding machine to the tester; polarity is not important.

Set Welding Machine

Turn on welder, set to MMA/stick, and set current to approximately 90 Amps.

Power On VRDT5 Tester

Ensure 200 Ohm switch is off. Tester powers on automatically or via green button.

Perform OCV Weld Test

Ensure OCV mode, weld until siren, stop. OCV displayed; green LED indicates pass.

Configure for Time Test and Resistance Check

Press Program, turn 200 Ohm switch on. Green LED OK; red indicates >200 Ohms.

Perform VRD Turn On Time Test

Weld until beeper. Display shows VRD turn on time. Green LED OK; flashing red indicates lock-on.

Power Down and Disconnect

Turn off welder, disconnect leads. Tester powers off automatically after ~3 minutes.
