Overview

The device is the Sage Compact Wave™ Soft Close Microwave Oven, model SMO650 UK. It is a freestanding microwave oven designed for household use, specifically for heating and cooking food and beverages.

Function Description

The Sage Compact Wave™ Soft Close Microwave Oven offers a range of functions for convenient and efficient cooking. It features a soft-close door, which is a notable user-friendly design element.

Core Functions:

  • Time & Power Level Adjustment: The microwave allows for precise control over cooking time, up to a maximum of 95 minutes, and offers 10 power levels, ranging from P100 (100%) down to P10 (10%) in 10% increments. The default power is P100.
  • Instant Start: The START/+30 button provides an instant start for 30 seconds at 100% microwave power. Each additional press adds 30-second increments to the cooking time.
  • Dynamic Power Adjustment: During manual cooking, both time and power can be adjusted dynamically. For pre-set menus (defrost, reheat, popcorn, beverage, food menu), only the time can be adjusted dynamically.
  • Stop/Clear/Child Lock: The STOP/CLEAR button pauses cooking with a single press and cancels it with a second press, returning to the default screen. Holding this button for 3 seconds activates or deactivates the Child Lock feature, which prevents accidental operation.
  • Mute Function: The MUTE button allows users to silence the microwave oven's operational sounds. Pressing it once mutes the sound, displaying "OFF" on the screen. Pressing it a second time unmutes the device.

Pre-set Cooking Functions:

  • Popcorn: This setting is optimized to pop the maximum number of kernels in a bag. Users can select weights of 25g, 80g, or 100g.
  • Beverage: Designed for reheating hot drinks like coffee and tea to approximately 140-150°F (60-65°C). Users can select quantities from 1 cup (8 fl. oz/240mL) to 4 cups (32 fl. oz/960mL).
  • Food Menu: This feature provides automatic cooking for specific food items at pre-determined power levels and times.
    • Potatoes (F-1): For perfectly cooked whole potatoes. Users can select from 1 (10oz/285g) to 3 (30oz/850g) potatoes. Potatoes should be pierced 5-6 times before cooking.
    • Pizza (F-2): Specifically for reheating leftover pizza slices. Users can select from 1 to 4 slices.
    • Frozen Vegetables (F-3): Suitable for various frozen vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peas). Cook times are based on vegetables from the freezer. Users can select weights from 125g, 250g, 375g, and 500g. Vegetables should be covered with a vented microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap.
  • Defrost: This setting gently defrosts food without overheating or drying out the edges. It offers two modes:
    • Defrost by Weight: Allows defrosting based on weight, ranging from 100g to 1.5kg.
    • Defrost by Time: Allows defrosting for a user-specified duration.
  • Reheat: Uses lower power levels to gently reheat food, preventing drying or overcooking.

Display and Indicators:

  • LED Screen: Displays the time, cooking settings, and various indicators.
  • Clock Display: A 24-hour clock can be set and displayed when the microwave is idle. If not set, it defaults to 00:00.
  • End of Cooking Cycle: At the end of any cooking cycle, the microwave beeps three times, and "End" flashes on the screen for 5 minutes or until the door is opened.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Consumption: 230-240V ~ 50 Hz; 1250W
  • Output: 800W - 2450 MHz
  • Outside Dimensions:
    • Height: 29.2cm / 11.5 inches
    • Width: 48.5cm / 19.0 inches
    • Depth (with handle): 41.7cm / 16.4 inches
    • Depth (without handle): 38.7cm / 15.2 inches
  • Glass Turntable Diameter: 27cm (10.6 inches)
  • Net Weight: Approx. 12.49kg
  • Oven Capacity: 25 Litres
  • Electrical Supply: Requires a 230-240-volt, 50 Hz, AC only, 15-20-amp electrical supply with a fuse or circuit breaker. A separate circuit dedicated to the microwave is recommended.
  • Grounding: The appliance is equipped with a grounding wire and plug and must be connected to a properly grounded 3-hole outlet to reduce the risk of electric shock.

Usage Features

  • Soft Close Door: The door handle allows for easy opening, and the soft-close mechanism enhances user experience.
  • Intuitive Controls: The interface includes dedicated buttons for POWER LEVEL, DEFROST, REHEAT, POPCORN, FOOD MENU, BEVERAGE, MUTE, START/+30, and STOP/CLEAR, along with a TIME dial for adjustments.
  • Installation: Designed as a free-standing unit, requiring minimum clearances: 10cm (4 inches) from adjacent walls and 20cm (8 inches) above. It should not be built into a cabinet or confined space to prevent overheating.
  • Safety Interlocks: The oven is equipped with safety interlocks to prevent operation with the door open. It is crucial not to tamper with these.
  • Microwave Guide Cover: A microwave guide cover is placed on the right panel inside the cavity and must not be removed to ensure safe operation.
  • Utensil Compatibility: Only microwave-safe containers, plates, and dishes should be used. Metal containers, utensils, and food-grade foil are not suitable as they can cause sparking or fire. Recycled paper or paper towels should also be avoided due to potential impurities.
  • Food Preparation: Lids and caps covering containers should be removed before placing liquids and/or foods into the microwave. Feeding bottles and baby food jars should have lids and caps removed before warming, and contents should be stirred and temperature checked before serving.
  • Superheated Liquids: Exercise caution with liquids, as they can become superheated without visible boiling. Stir liquids before and halfway through heating, use wide-mouthed containers, and allow to stand after heating.
  • Food with Membranes: Foods surrounded by membranes (e.g., potatoes, chicken liver, egg yolks) should be pierced several times to allow steam to escape.
  • Eggs: Whole eggs and hard-boiled eggs in their shell should not be cooked or heated in the microwave due to explosion risk.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Cleaning: The microwave oven cavity and exterior surfaces should be cleaned regularly with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent. Food splatters, grease, and fat must be removed to prevent deterioration of the surface, potential hazards, and fire risk.
  • Turntable Cleaning: The glass turntable and turntable roller should be washed in warm soapy water, rinsed, and dried thoroughly. Ensure the turntable roller is correctly positioned in the cavity base.
  • Odor Removal: Odors can be removed by microwaving a cup of water with lemon juice for 5 minutes at 100% power, then wiping the cavity.
  • Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Do not use abrasive cleaners, spray cleaners, or steam cleaners, as they can damage surfaces or operating parts.
  • Ventilation Openings: Ensure water does not seep into the ventilation openings during cleaning.
  • Control Panel: Clean the control panel with a soft, damp cloth, keeping the door open to prevent accidental activation.
  • Storage: When storing, unplug the power cord, ensure the oven is cool, clean, and dry. Secure the roller ring and glass turntable, close the door, and store upright without heavy objects on top.
  • Professional Service: Any service or repair, especially involving the removal of covers that protect against microwave energy exposure, must be carried out by qualified personnel. If the door or door seals are damaged, the oven must not be operated until repaired by a competent person.
  • Troubleshooting: Basic troubleshooting steps are provided for common issues like interference with radio/TV, dim light, steam, oven not starting, not heating, or noisy turntable. If issues persist, contact Sage Consumer Support.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 2-year limited guarantee for domestic use against defects in workmanship and materials.
