Do you have a question about the Salto WRD 0E4 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the SALTO XS4 Reader, an access control device designed for various installation scenarios. The manual provides detailed information on its physical characteristics, electrical specifications, installation procedures, and compliance statements.

Function Description

The SALTO XS4 Reader is a card reader for access control systems. It is designed to read RFID cards and communicate with a control unit (e.g., SALTO CU42xx) to grant or deny access. Some models also include a keypad for PIN entry, offering an additional layer of security. The device features visual and audible signaling to indicate various statuses such as card acceptance, rejection, privacy mode, and standard opening/locking. It supports both standard and office-mode operations.

Important Technical Specifications

The XS4 Reader operates within a temperature range of -35°C to +66°C (-31°F to +150°F) for most models (WRDOB, WRDOS, WRDOBK, WRDOSK) and -25°C to +66°C (-13°F to +150°F) for others (WRDOJ, WRDOGK, WRDOJK). Humidity tolerance is between 35% and 85%.

RF Characteristics:

  • RFID Frequency: 13.56 MHz. Output max power is +25 dBm for all models listed (WRDOB, WRDOJ, WRDOS, WRDOBK, WRDOJK, WRDOBF, WRDOJF, WRMOB, WRMOJ, WRDPOB, WRDPOJ, WRDMOB, WRDMOJ).
  • Bluetooth Smart Frequency: 2.4 - 2.445 - 2.483 GHz. Output max power is +8 dBm for most models, with WRDOS having +2.8 dBm.

Power Consumption (Note 1):

  • Reader only: 150 mA
  • Reader + Keypad: 250 mA
  • Note 1: Installer must account for this data to dimension the CU42xx power supply.
  • Note 2: Not to be used with Scotchlok butt connector UY2. SALTO recommends using one cable per wall reader.

Cable Type and Max. Distances:

  • UTP Cat5e 2 pairs (AWG24): 100m (328ft) for reader, 60m (196ft) for reader+keypad.
  • UTP Cat5e 4 pairs (AWG24 + SP224861/SP224895): 250m (820ft) for reader, 150m (492ft) for reader+keypad.
  • Twisted pairs (AWG18 Note 2): 400m (1312ft) for reader, 280m (918ft) for reader+keypad.

Software:

  • Control: 0151, 0152, 0153 (depending on model).
  • Bluetooth Module: 0136.

Physical Dimensions: The standard XS4 Reader measures approximately 95.5mm (3-3/4") in width and 141mm (5-9/16") in height. The depth varies, with the main body being around 29.5mm (1-5/32") and the mounting plate adding another 23mm (29/32"). The device is designed for surface mounting and can be installed with a standard electrical box (gang electrical standard box).

Usage Features

The XS4 Reader offers clear visual and audible feedback for various operations:

  • Card Rejection: Red light (1 sec) with a high-pitched buzzer (1 sec).
  • Privacy or Emergency Status: Red light flashing 5 times (50/50x3+off300) with a high-pitched buzzer flashing 5 times (50/50x3+off300) for 3 seconds.
  • Standard Opening: Green light (1 sec) with a low-pitched buzzer (0.3 sec).
  • Standard Locking: Red light (0.5 sec) with a low-pitched buzzer (0.2 sec).

The device is designed for integration with SALTO CU42xx control units. It supports various cable connections, including 3M™ Scotchlok™ butt connectors (UY2) for certain wiring configurations, although SALTO recommends using one cable per wall reader. The installation process involves mounting the reader, connecting it to the control unit, and securing it with screws.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: The electronic device should be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soapy water. Abrasive soaps or sprays should never be used. For best performance, stainless steel components should be cleaned regularly.
