Do you have a question about the Salton JK1282 and is the answer not in the manual?
The Salton Model JK1282 is a cordless electric jug kettle designed for household use, capable of boiling up to 1.7 litres (or quarts) of water. Its primary function is to quickly heat water for various purposes, such as making hot beverages or preparing food.
The manual emphasizes several crucial safety precautions to ensure safe operation. Users are instructed to read all instructions before use and to avoid touching hot surfaces, utilizing the handle and knobs instead. To prevent electrical hazards, the cord, plugs, and the appliance itself should not be immersed in water or other liquids. Close supervision is necessary when the kettle is used by or near children. The appliance should be unplugged from the outlet when not in use, before cleaning, and allowed to cool down before handling parts. It is critical not to operate the kettle if it has a damaged cord or plug, or if it has malfunctioned or been damaged in any way; in such cases, it should be returned to Salton for examination, repair, or adjustment. The use of accessories or attachments not recommended by Salton is prohibited, as it may lead to fire, electric shock, or personal injury. The kettle is designed for indoor use only and should not be used outdoors. The cord should not be allowed to hang over the edge of a table or counter or touch hot surfaces. The appliance should not be placed on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven. When connecting, the plug should always be attached to the appliance first, then plugged into the wall outlet. To disconnect, the control should be turned to 'OFF', and then the plug removed from the wall outlet. The kettle is intended for boiling water only and should not be used for other purposes. It should not be left unattended while in use. Extreme caution is advised when moving the appliance when it contains hot liquids.
The kettle has a capacity of 1.7 litres/quarts, indicated by a water level window with markings for MAX (1.7 L/Q), 1.5 L/Q, 1.0 L/Q, and MIN (0.5 L/Q). It operates on a 120V AC wall outlet. The appliance features a grounded plug (2 blades and 1 pin) to reduce the risk of electric shock. If the plug does not fit fully into the electrical outlet, a qualified electrician should be contacted; the plug should not be modified, and an adaptor should not be used. A short supply cord is provided to minimize entanglement and tripping hazards. If an extension cord is used, it must have an electrical rating at least as great as the appliance's rating and, if the appliance is grounded, the extension cord should be a grounded 3-wire cord. The extension cord should be positioned to avoid draping over counters or tables where it could be pulled by children or cause trips.
Before first use, all instructions should be read, packaging removed, and the first boiled water discarded. The kettle comes with a filter pre-installed. If removed, the filter must be reinstalled before use to prevent water from spilling out when boiling. The filter should not be removed when the kettle is hot. The kettle should be filled with water between the minimum and maximum levels indicated on the water level window. It is crucial not to fill the kettle while it is on the Power Base. Only water should be used, as other liquids can contaminate the interior. Overfilling past the MAX level can cause water to spill out. The kettle should be placed securely on its Power Base. The Power Base cord should be plugged into a 120V AC wall outlet, but never with an empty kettle. To start boiling, the On/Off Switch should be depressed to the 'On' position, which will illuminate an indicator light. Once the water boils, the switch will automatically return to the 'Off' position, and the light will go out. If the kettle is to be used again immediately, a thermal safety switch requires 15-20 seconds to cool down before the On/Off Switch can be depressed to 'On' again. If the switch does not remain 'On', it indicates the water is still hot enough for use without reheating. The cord should be unplugged from the wall outlet before lifting the kettle from the Power Base. The kettle should only be gripped by the handle, as the surface and lid will be hot. After use, the kettle should be returned to the Power Base or placed on a heat-resistant surface. If the kettle is accidentally switched on when empty, a thermostat will automatically cycle, switching the kettle off to cool down before switching it back on. In this event, the Power Base should be unplugged, and the kettle allowed to cool before refilling. It is recommended to disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet when not in use. No other appliance should be connected to the Power Base, and the connector should not be tampered with.
For cleaning, the power cord should be unplugged, any remaining water emptied, and the kettle allowed to cool. The Aquascreen Filter® can be removed and cleaned by rinsing it under running water. It is removed by grasping it firmly between the thumb and forefinger and gently twisting it off from either the right or left edge. Over time, a deposit of scale may form inside the kettle, causing discolouration. To remove scale, equal parts of white vinegar and water (500 ml / 2 cups of each) should be boiled in the kettle. After boiling, the mixture should be allowed to stand for several hours or overnight. The mixture should then be emptied, and the kettle refilled to the MAX level with fresh water, brought to a boil, and discarded. For heavy scale build-up, this process should be repeated. To delay scale build-up, it is recommended to pour out old water and refill with fresh water before each use. Abrasive cleaners should not be used. Water should not be allowed to enter the Power Base. The kettle or Power Base should not be immersed in water or any other liquid.
